Thats a bummer for you. This thing has been training from the sw to the ne very nicely....for me and NW GA at least.

Only 0.83" here total. I have the Atlanta TDWR radar working on my GRL3 since FFC is down. Much higher resolution than normal NEXRAD but much shorter range too. http://www.daculaweather.com/grlevel3/ga-state_atlanta_tatl_br.php

I've got a few missing images right now probably because I'm uploading to my site via my tethered Droid...

I do not think you will have an issue getting that cream on top this afternoon into tonight! I also assume your temps will crash fast!

Hope so. It's 44.3 now so it won't have to drop too far. With all this rain, I bet the black ice will be more of an issue in the morning than the snow.

Sounds like you made up for last week!

I did. I really didn't think I'd get this much (2.12 and still raining) with this system. Hope you get a little surprise this evening too, Don. :snowman:

Most of N MS and W TN reporting snow the last hour. Memphis was at 32 with 1/2 mile vis. Pretty impressive considering thats two events already for them this early and the crappy pattern we are in. Plus the fact that that area often gets left out while areas east of them do better.

Count my area in that mostly left out category, normally it either snows in e tx /shreveport area and moves north or starts out east of here in al, or take it a step further in years past snows to the south of us in s LA and MS. Maybe this is a good sign we will get something bigger this year. last year we had one storm with about 3.5 inches followed by a 9 degree low.

Great web cam of Graceland... So far, this event has added 2.2 inches to my December total. Never dropped below 60 all night, and that's where she sits now. I plan to drive north later and experience my first flakes. This photo was made one year ago today at Linville. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Dont mean to poke too much fun but man for a brief moment it was hard to tell whether your hair is white or if its the snow.

I'm over 2 inches since Monday afternoon due to nice training yesterday. Now lets see if we can put a little icing on this cake come evening!!

Just remember that it won't be "real" snow you are frolicking in :) I just had my heaviest shower for about 15 seconds. 50.9, so it feels a lot better than yesterday. Tony

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BIRMINGHAM AL

1045 AM CST WED DEC 7 2011

.UPDATE...TODAYS WEATHER.

&&

.DISCUSSION...

RAIN HAS CHANGED OVER TO SNOW IN THE WESTERN COUNTIES THIS MORNING

AND THE RAIN/SNOW LINE SHOULD SHIFT QUICKLY EASTWARD DURING THE

LATE MORNING AND EARLY AFTERNOON HOURS. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT

SURFACE TEMPERATURES SHOULD STAY ABOVE FREEZING IN THE SNOW

AREAS...EVEN THOUGH IT MAY BRIEFLY FALL TO 32 DEGREES IN POCKETS

OF HEAVIER SNOWFALL. THE OTHER GOOD NEWS IS THAT THE PRECIPITATION

SHIELD IS MOVING QUICKLY EASTWARD...AND THE BACK EDGE OF THE

HEAVIER SNOW IS APPROACHING TUPELO MISSISSIPPI.

SNOWFALL ACCUMULATION SHOULD BE LIMITED TO GRASSY AREAS...AND WITH

WEST WINDS OF 10 TO 20 MPH...IT WILL LIKELY MELT AS QUICKLY AS IT

FALLS ONCE THE SNOW ENDS. BASED ON FORECAST THICKNESS PROFILES...

THERE WILL BE A SEVERAL HOUR WINDOW THIS AFTERNOON BEFORE THE

PRECIPITATION ENDS WHERE SNOWFALL IS LIKELY ACROSS NORTHEAST

ALABAMA...AND ADDED THREE COUNTIES TO THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY.

This just in from Huntsville

.DISCUSSION...WINTRY PRECIPITATION IS BEGINNING TO SPREAD EASTWARD

FROM NW AL INTO THE INTERSTATE 65 CORRIDOR. SPOTTERS, PUBLIC, AND

MEDIA REPORTS HAVE BEGUN TO INDICATE THAT ALL SNOW IS OCCURRING OVER

PORTIONS OF NW AL WITH A RAIN/SNOW MIX JUST EAST OF LAUDERDALE,

COLBERT, AND FRANKLIN AL COUNTIES. STRONG DYNAMIC COOLING EVIDENT OVER

N MS WILL CONTINUE TO SPREAD EASTWARD. AREA SOUNDINGS (KLZK AND RSA)

INDICATE THAT THE COLUMN IS ALMOST COMPLETELY BELOW FREEZING (EXCEPT

NEAR THE SURFACE AT RSA) WITH THE COLUMN EXPECTED TO BECOME

COMPLETELY SATURATED UP TO THE -20C LAYER ALOFT. FROM THE SFC

OBS, IT DOES APPEAR THAT ALL SNOW IS OCCURRING OVER NW AL.

THIS ALL SNOW PRECIPITATION WILL CONTINUE TO OVERSPREAD THE

INTERSTATE 65 CORRIDOR AND NE AL/FRANKLIN, MOORE COUNTIES IN TN BY

EARLY AFTERNOON (1-3 PM). WITH REGARDS TO EXPECTED ACCUMULATIONS, IT

APPEARS THAT ONE HALF TO ONE INCH ACCUMULATION IS LIKELY OVER NW

AL AND THE INTERSTATE 65 CORRIDOR WITH HIGHER ACCUMULATIONS (2 TO 3

INCHES) OVER NE AL. THE HIGHER ACCUMULATIONS ARE MAINLY EXPECTED DUE

TO TOPOGRAPHIC EFFECTS OVER THE CUMBERLAND PLATEAU.

SO, GIVEN THESE EXPECTED ACCUMULATIONS, HAVE UPGRADED NE AL, FRANKLIN

TN, AND MOORE COUNTIES TO A WINTER STORM WARNING WITH THE REST OF THE

AREA IN A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY. FURTHER UPDATES ARE POSSIBLE AS

THE EVENT UNFOLDS.
