  1. We are nearing retirement and want a big yard after living in a packed development for decades. My wife is pushing for lower southern MD where my parents and sibs are and where property is cheaper. 10 or 15 years ago that would have scared the heck outta me having grown up in Calvert. Now though? Nah, what's the difference living SE of the "new Richmond" compared to NW.
  2. So jealous of those areas near Allentown now getting snow squall warnings
  3. 12/11/23: 1.5 12/14: 0.2 1/15-16: 4.5 1/19: 6.3 2/13: 0.5 2/17: 2.5 Total: 15.5
  4. We are so due for a classic Gulf and up the coast with temps in the 20s throughout and I was convinced we'd get one at some point this winter with the nino. The clock is starting to run out
  5. Thanks for posting that radar loop. What a crazy band! There are places near/just S of Allentown with over a foot and with places 10-20 miles away on either side with amounts like we got
  6. I drove to near Reading, PA yesterday to get our new puppy and there were spots along the turnpike east of Harrisburg that had 5-6" old snow on the ground. Man! Eyeballing about 2" near Germantown. Trees are beautiful
  7. That was me! I'm 57. It's so nice to have a whole community to talk weather with on here. All I had was weather on the news and my Bearcat weather radio I'm hoping this one surprises a la 3/9/99
  8. 12/11/23: 1.5 12/14: 0.2 1/15-16: 4.5 1/19: 6.3 2/13: 0.5 2/17: TBD Total: 13.0
  9. Sun's out and the half inch of wet snow has melted into little slush balls. With the green grass it looks like we've had a hailstorm
  10. Snow ending with a good half inch coating on grass and roofs. It's more than I expected a couple days ago so I'll take it!
  11. We sure are overdue! Epic dumps (some did not hit the whole region): 1979, 1983, 1987, 1993, 1996, 2000, 2003, 2010 (2), 2016 -- every 4th to 5th winter on average with the longest stretches being 7 and 6 years. Now we are at 8 years...
  12. Went for a long walk, whew hot! We're gonna grill up some burgers later with some ice cold beers. Can't believe I was running my snow blower 7 days ago Poor Philly stuck in the 40s
  13. Still struggling to get out of the 20s I just dug out the downspouts and splashguards so the big melt doesn't back up. One house behind us has huge icicles on one stretch of gutter. They must have a clog in that one
  14. Winds kicking back up for some more roof effect snow squalls, 24 degrees. Got to take this in and maybe a walk later before the big warmup starts
  15. Occasional gusts and 25 degrees. Looking forward to football and watching roof effect squalls out the windows
  16. 20 degrees and getting breezy. We're in a neighborhood with small yards, so lots of roofs for snow to blow off of making it look like a squall at times. Very wintry day!
  17. 12/11/23: 1.5 12/14: 0.2 1/15-16: 4.5 1/19: 6.3 Total: 12.5
  18. If you have some good binoculars, focus on something a few hundred feet away and you get that effect you see in stadiums where it looks like its snowing much, much heavier than it actually is. Just stare at that for a while
  19. Wow talk about perfect timing, congrats! Pretty neat to be trudging around in snow today knowing you'll be sitting under coconut palms tomorrow Snow picking up a bit in Germantown with about 4" new (based on nearby reports)
  20. OT but when I walked up 1st Street to Union Station in DC on Wednesday, I saw icicles more than 2 feet long hanging from an overpass above the street. Yikes when those melt and give way Light snow and 28 in Germantown
  21. Seems like they "close" easier now, like Tuesday, but we just telework when closed
  22. Daytime light snow with 1-2 inches on top of snow on the ground sounds like a beautiful winter day!
