  1. I think the Penn line is different and doesn't get the heat-related speed restrictions we get on the Brunswick line heading NW out of DC, which is a standard track (no overhead wires). We get them 90 and over, or even 85 if there was a big swing in temps from morning lows. All due to heat kink risk
  2. Here too! I love the big, colorful sunpatiens and had a bunch last year but they are water needy. This year lots of lantana and annual vinca which are tough as nails with high heat and dry Already 86/70. Not looking forward to commuting to DC on MARC train tomorrow with the problems they have with big heat
  3. Do we threaten this? (Free derecho not included)
  4. That really is crazy. Meanwhile someone farts in Delaware and it rains 3 inches
  5. That 6-10 day looks good and has above rainfall as well, but I remember how bad that 6-10 performs in winter. It's worse than the Euro Sunny 87/72
  6. Random but looked at July 2000 (IAD) and oh man it must have been nice: only one 90-degree day (91), 10 highs below 80, and 7 nights in the 50s (with lowest of 50) Departure of -5.4 and 4.28 rain. And look at this stretch: 2000-07-23 78 60 69.0 -8.4 0 4 0.00 0.0 0 2000-07-24 71 64 67.5 -9.9 0 3 0.24 0.0 0 2000-07-25 77 62 69.5 -7.9 0 5 0.00 0.0 0 2000-07-26 71 64 67.5 -9.8 0 3 0.20 0.0 0 Sun coming out now - planning on cooking out later as it will "only" be about 90 today
  7. Wow you (Rockville) lucked out bigtime! I only got 0.05 last evening for a total of 0.45 for the event. That strip of MontCo from Potomac to Olney did great while most of the rest of the area did terrible. I wasn't expecting much but I can't believe how AA Co and other east areas got robbed so bad I's sitting at just 0.6 for July so I'm watering the gardens heavily heading into a nasty heatwave followed by a dry cold front passage
  8. Can't wait to see the comments on this Seriously though I am hopeful at that batch down in central/southern VA reaching here later on
  9. Sun is coming out and the cicadas are singing. Emptied the gauge at 0.40. Not what I was hoping for but better than nothing 0.55 for the month so far
  10. I'm hoping for a weak but wet tropical system to come into the FL panhandle and take the perfect track to deluge us later this summer. We have a shot with a very active tropical season coming up.
  11. Enjoy the heck out of it because the first half of next week looks brutal! Maybe 100-plus three straight days? Sitting at about 0.3 here which makes me one of the lucky ones so far. The good part is it's just 73 degrees at mid-day
  12. Yeah the rain in central VA looks to be moving north, I hope it gets up here and fills in I did manage to catch some of that thin line this morning for 0.27 so far which is triple what I had gotten for the month 'til now
  13. That's good as I'm to your NE. That thin training band has been undulating back and forth but mostly staying just east. I can see clear sky looking up towards Frederick Echoing what others noted -- the rain comes heavier than it looks on radar. Some real efficient rain makers
  14. That is a nice looking map for me but it's the Euro... Nice evening outside with low 80s and decent humidity
  15. Gut wrenching forecast being west of the good rain cutoff. I'm hoping the blue ridge rain shadow that kills me with W to E moving storms helps me out this time with the E to SE winds
  16. That's good news thanks for posting. Reminds me of winter when we get excited over the qpf totals going up
  17. 0.15 here Euro looks good for my area tomorrow but it's the Euro. The other models look sparse
  18. East of I95 looking good for rain tomorrow. Maybe I'll get some clouds? Comfortable 70 degrees start to the day
  19. Barely got into the northern tip of that VA line for just 0.10 and the northern line is lined up to miss to the north. So glad I set my irrigation set up today which is running right now. $uk it mother nature
  20. I wish that line had filled in -- looks like a close call for my area to catch the northern extent of it
  21. Because it's bad for many right now outside of maybe NE MD. Wasn't there a ridiculously wet year a few years ago where places got 60-80 inches compared to the average 40? That probably skews it. Anyway I'm seeing leaf drop from mature trees and have fewer hummingbirds and butterflies than I've ever seen at this point in summer
  22. I'd love to have one of those night thunderstorms with lots of lightning. What a wild day in western NY with a large area under enhanced. Already several tornado warnings
  23. I wasn't going to set up my irrigation kit since I only planted tough stuff -- tropical milkweeds, lantana and annual vinca. But even those have been suffering and hand watering by hose doesn't work as well so I broke down and installed it. Guaranteed rain this evening for that parched, cracked garden 94/77 (108) ouch
  24. Good info! Last year we had just 8, with 3 in a row July 27-29 and 5 in a row from Sept 3-7. Would have been a nice number if not for that Sept heatwave. This year's number is going to be ugly
  25. Caught the edge of a shower. Not much rain but dropped the temp to 80 That's wild south south of Balt. Says up to 2" has fallen with up to 1.5 more. They'll have standing water while a few miles away is bone dry
