  1. I drove to near Reading, PA yesterday to get our new puppy and there were spots along the turnpike east of Harrisburg that had 5-6" old snow on the ground. Man! Eyeballing about 2" near Germantown. Trees are beautiful
  2. That was me! I'm 57. It's so nice to have a whole community to talk weather with on here. All I had was weather on the news and my Bearcat weather radio I'm hoping this one surprises a la 3/9/99
  3. 12/11/23: 1.5 12/14: 0.2 1/15-16: 4.5 1/19: 6.3 2/13: 0.5 2/17: TBD Total: 13.0
  4. Sun's out and the half inch of wet snow has melted into little slush balls. With the green grass it looks like we've had a hailstorm
  5. Snow ending with a good half inch coating on grass and roofs. It's more than I expected a couple days ago so I'll take it!
  6. We sure are overdue! Epic dumps (some did not hit the whole region): 1979, 1983, 1987, 1993, 1996, 2000, 2003, 2010 (2), 2016 -- every 4th to 5th winter on average with the longest stretches being 7 and 6 years. Now we are at 8 years...
  7. Went for a long walk, whew hot! We're gonna grill up some burgers later with some ice cold beers. Can't believe I was running my snow blower 7 days ago Poor Philly stuck in the 40s
  8. Still struggling to get out of the 20s I just dug out the downspouts and splashguards so the big melt doesn't back up. One house behind us has huge icicles on one stretch of gutter. They must have a clog in that one
  9. Winds kicking back up for some more roof effect snow squalls, 24 degrees. Got to take this in and maybe a walk later before the big warmup starts
  10. Occasional gusts and 25 degrees. Looking forward to football and watching roof effect squalls out the windows
  11. 20 degrees and getting breezy. We're in a neighborhood with small yards, so lots of roofs for snow to blow off of making it look like a squall at times. Very wintry day!
  12. 12/11/23: 1.5 12/14: 0.2 1/15-16: 4.5 1/19: 6.3 Total: 12.5
  13. If you have some good binoculars, focus on something a few hundred feet away and you get that effect you see in stadiums where it looks like its snowing much, much heavier than it actually is. Just stare at that for a while
  14. Wow talk about perfect timing, congrats! Pretty neat to be trudging around in snow today knowing you'll be sitting under coconut palms tomorrow Snow picking up a bit in Germantown with about 4" new (based on nearby reports)
  15. OT but when I walked up 1st Street to Union Station in DC on Wednesday, I saw icicles more than 2 feet long hanging from an overpass above the street. Yikes when those melt and give way Light snow and 28 in Germantown
  16. Seems like they "close" easier now, like Tuesday, but we just telework when closed
  17. Daytime light snow with 1-2 inches on top of snow on the ground sounds like a beautiful winter day!
  18. We would take our late month warm-up like champs and get ready for February. This sub needed this week so badly
  19. That's what my fed gov office does -- we don't close any more, everyone teleworks today. Even if we had a blizzard again with several days "closed" we still work. Good tradeoff with the WFH flexibility we get Got a touch of frz drizzle coming down now
  20. Measured 4" near Germantown. Glad I left the deck lights up
  21. In our area of central MD we got a good 8-10 inch storm in January 2019, which is my last significant snow before this (missed 2022). North Balti's area must have missed out on that too. Hope they really get nailed this time Eyeballing 3.5 and mod snow
  22. That was a nice one! 2019 was the last time I had a significant (5" plus) snow. That's a long stretch. Lt snow and about 1.25" here
