  1. Past hour
  2. I happen to think it wasn’t an innocent mistake based on this person from the UK’s past winter forecasts….which always come to the same conclusion about how winter will turn out. I’m pretty sure there were ulterior motives (likes, etc. from his followers) for saying we are at a solar minimum because said person knows darn well that a solar minimum and low geomag = high latitude blocking
  3. Another beautiful day. sadly, a swimmer drowned off of fire island yesterday. Rip currents were brutal
  4. Need one more for our fantasy team...anybody here play?
  5. Maybe, just maybe....today's the day for Tamaqua.
  6. Stein makes it very hard . Last year was watering daily into Nov. Key is it has to stay moist . If folks aren’t committed to watering .. do not overseed
  7. Kids will need a light jacket in the mornings midweek.
  8. I overseed every year on Labor Day weekend, it is important to get good seed growth before the first frost
  9. Ughhh back home, even though it's 50 miles it feels like a whole nother country lol 78, partly cloudy and a stiff breeze.
  10. Looks like top 5 cool mornings on tap tomorrow, and Tues. Frost adv issued. Possible with low max temps, as well, today, and tomorrow.
  11. The best weather week of the year occurring in August is a flex
  12. Today
  13. It was probably a category 2 at NJ landfall based on the below report. https://riskandinsurance.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Swiss-Re_the_big_one_us_hurricane.pdf
  14. No rain in sight other than the slight chance of a shower late tonight. It's nice that we're going to have a long stretch of beautiful weather, but the lack of rain is a concern. Parts of the area have moved into a moderate drought and it's only going to get worse over the next couple weeks. I hope we're not heading towards the same situation we had last fall with a severe drought.
  15. It's been a long break up here. About a month long break. Summer is dead.
  16. Cool and grey here with a breeze. 69F
  17. YMMV but I think I may try winter seeding. I’ll spread some out where I want it right before the first snow that looks like will stick around for awhile. We can easily keep pack or glacier DJFM so I may be able to get away with that method.
  18. Yeah agree. It’s the torch spots that need extra heat/drought resistance. The west side of my house bakes and goes dormant early every season. This year I have lespedeza rapidly spreading through the brown and it’s putting me on tilt. I don’t mind certain “weeds” and regular clover, but this crap chokes everything else out and has woody stems. I may have to try something to target it next spring before it spreads too far. Some of the seed you’re talking about may be an option as well.
  19. It inevitably will get warmer after Labor Day, but for many or most of us, the average high will be in the low 80s by then. In September, you can be much above average in temperature, yet be below 90. Average highs are starting to plummet. For goodness sake, Greensboro had a high of 79 and lows in th mid 60s yesterday in a “warm and humid air mass.” The lower sun angle and shorter days make it harder to sustain big heat, although sporadic big heat obviously has happened in history.
  20. Most of the trees and natives are done growing and are lignifying. They’re still photosynthesizing and putting that energy into the buds and root growth, but the top growth is about done. The transpiration demands are lessening as well with the lower sun angle and shorter days. That’s really all I’m talking about.
  21. Id be shocked if Summer doesn't come back for a vengeance in Sept. This break is nice though.
  22. The below normal dewpoints and dry conditions this month are helping the daily lows drive the cool departures for a change. Looks like a slightly cooler pattern will continue for the rest of the month. If we don’t see a reversal of this drier pattern, then there could be more 90° heat on tap in September since it would be easy to warm up with such a dry pattern once the ridge returns.
