RFD had 4.7" ORD 11.1" Jan.totals Average January ORD monthly totals 11.1" Difference mostly LES. MBY somewhere between those so would give the month a C-. Mostly swiped by dusters and flakes in the air from distant LES. Trough position too far east with us sitting on backside. If pattern resets ideally trough digs back further west if not could be repeat of January.

February 2026 Medium/ Long Range Discussion: Buckle Up!
Kay replied to Weather Will's topic in Mid Atlantic
I've been trying to pick a night or two this week to spend in Columbia at my dad's. I'm such a pathetic weenie that WWAW is actually now part of my decision. Maybe an extra tenth down there!!! lol. Who knows. But I'm silly, and I feel silly. -

Down the mountain I heard Cleveland County was almost out completely. -
Yeah I've been reading there is a salt shortage across NC. Maybe because of the storms being back to back? I'm not sure.

When does the vortex split stuff come into play? -
All of the melting talk should have been saved for this upcoming week. The pack will get banged up a bit with temps in the low 30’s and sun.

I'm going to attempt to clear the driveway enough to get one vehicle out today. It looks like the Town of Maggie Valley plowed the road leading up to the house early this morning. Those little blessings of being the last house within the Town limits I suppose. So it looks like a minor event may be possible Tuesday night into Wednesday. We'll see about that potential the next 24 to 48 hours. I've heard rumors that NCDOT is running out of salt. I hope it just a rumor locally for our Mountain Region! -

Love to see an accurate qpf output for the storm. We might have gotten more on the western end of CC… My parents are in Morehead and they just sent pics of >“20… The wind makes it near impossible to measure accurately, but my “perfectly” placed plant stand is a nice proxy nonetheless, it’s been absolutely epic. And considering I moved my family from Raleigh to EI this summer, my snow curse is officially over lol -

Low of 8. Glad to hear the threats for next week are looking promising. Always nice to get a couple refreshers to aid the pack and whiten things up. -
We’re going to need at least two more warning events and some smaller events to get to normal. We have about six weeks to do it, but I haven’t really looked at the long range. I have to go back and calculate my totals but I think I need at least another 20” to hit my average.
