This weather is a little bit depressing tbh.

Get used to it, fall/spring shoulder seasons are never going to be the same. Can pretty much extend the summer season a couple of months locally these days. Super early spring and a warm fall is a lock around these parts.

Idk how familiar you are with local wx history but you should look up the historic March 2012 heatwave. Endless days of 80s to near 90 in the middle of the month across the MW! 94 in South Dakota on 3/18!

The change has been happening long before “Morch 2012“ but it seems like that mega torch was a key milestone where a switch was flipped.

41 with some very light le.  Feels like the October I know but it's not gonna last, quick warmup follows.

Low-mid 40's here. 20's-30's for lows this morning. Seasonably cool. Rain coming in later tonight into tomorrow will be welcome.

My place had a high of 72, low 47. It's so nice I think that's 15-16 degrees above normal for the high, maybe less above normal for the low of 47. The leaves are still green for several trees. I anticipate there will be a mad rush to pick up leaves when it actually gets cold. I have my window open right now, tonight. It's going to get warmer, up to 76 this week. Crazy! The weather systems are not delivering the cold air. (Toledo had high 74, low 42 at the airport)

March 2012 or the peak event of it accelerated my passion for meteorology. It was also the first time I was really excited witnessing a weather feature that wasn't a type of cyclone (it was an anti-cyclone! ...maybe?). The ask if it was a before/after flip is intriguing: I do sort of think before and after since it mucked up what we thought was possible in climo regimes. I started thinking what if the whole script had flipped where we get acceleration in unexpected ways of trends in motion.

I’ve got a feeling we’re going to see a “Morch 2012”  type of torch somewhere in the region these upcoming months. All the ingredients seem to be in place for something historic!

We haven't had an epic heat event yet (its all smoothed out currently) from all this here locally but I suspect your right that it would be hard for something crazy not to air itself during this historic period. I wouldn't use March 2012 for any future prediction; its so unfathomable that even during this setup such extremes are highly unlikely. I'm thinking more like the magnitude of the heat Europe experienced in June and parts of July which was going toe to toe with 2003's event in various metrics. I'm personally hoping for 20C IMBY on 'mas day so I can eat my figgy puddin' in the backyard (no rain as a bonus).

The tenacity of this pattern is getting insane. Those mega highs just keep spawning in this part of the continent. I thought for sure there would be a flip for all this gorgeous wx with those weeks during 2nd half of Sep and this very dry Oct with constant clarity - much to my delight instead we get tiny blips then back to blue skies for days. Then the models showing it just going on into Nov when I was sure it was ending :lmao: .

actually gonna sell an anomalous morch tier event (ez call always given how extreme that was) but suspect southern stream and pac dominance will keeps things steadily above average/mild
