Chinook
This is a very strange 500mb trough/ridge/trough combination. There are high 500mb heights in the Northeast tonight, but temperatures will drop towards freezing in that region.
cyclone77
From a weather enthusiast perspective this has been an extremely boring month of weather, but this has been an exceptional stretch of weather to be sure.

Kankakee's October is avg for Raleigh NC. I lived in SC for 17 years, I remember it well.

Get used to it, fall/spring shoulder seasons are never going to be the same. Can pretty much extend the summer season a couple of months locally these days. Super early spring and a warm fall is a lock around these parts. Idk how familiar you are with local wx history but you should look up the historic March 2012 heatwave. Endless days of 80s to near 90 in the middle of the month across the MW! 94 in South Dakota on 3/18! The change has been happening long before “Morch 2012“ but it seems like that mega torch was a key milestone where a switch was flipped.

All the ingredients seem to be in place for something historic!

Low-mid 40's here. 20's-30's for lows this morning. Seasonably cool. Rain coming in later tonight into tomorrow will be welcome.

Chinook
My place had a high of 72, low 47. It's so nice I think that's 15-16 degrees above normal for the high, maybe less above normal for the low of 47. The leaves are still green for several trees. I anticipate there will be a mad rush to pick up leaves when it actually gets cold. I have my window open right now, tonight. It's going to get warmer, up to 76 this week. Crazy! The weather systems are not delivering the cold air. (Toledo had high 74, low 42 at the airport) a couple of pics

March 2012 or the peak event of it accelerated my passion for meteorology. It was also the first time I was really excited witnessing a weather feature that wasn't a type of cyclone (it was an anti-cyclone! ...maybe?). The ask if it was a before/after flip is intriguing: I do sort of think before and after since it mucked up what we thought was possible in climo regimes. I started thinking what if the whole script had flipped where we get acceleration in unexpected ways of trends in motion.
