weatherwiz
Twitter is so ridiculous with weather. Everyone trying so hard to justify why PTC 5 is going to strengthen and going nuts with how the convection looks, how because its a tight circulation so all it needs to do is increase its spin, and blah blah blah...meanwhile recon is extremely meh lol. Its literally been happening yesterday with people trying to will this to just take off

Hard to RI when you have no inner core. This would be 2/5 of my NS forecast. The next three need to be hurricanes.

Its been nothing but "a, b, and c look good, good sign its strengthening" "Thunderstorms blossoming around the center....good sign it's strengthening" "Angle of the thunderstorms...good sign it's strengthening" "Compact storm, just needs to spin more...good sign it's strengthening" But yeah this probably finds some way to get TS winds for about 7 minutes before moving inland

It was during the summer for a few days. My second child was born 9 months later.. ahem. I have skied there, but that was in 1987. I have the epic pass for next year. We will be going this year for a few days with my youngest Teen. Wife doesn't ski, so any in town VRBO's or Inn's suggestions would be good @powderfreak. She loves the small town shops.

vortex95
On 8/30/2026 at 6:52 AM, BrianW said: What a summer for SW CT.. While there remains forecast uncertainty this far out, it appears the region will have the potential for convectively induced heavy rain and embedded thunderstorm activity. WPC currently has the area under a marginal risk of excessive rainfall Monday through Thursday morning, and SPC persists in placing the area in a 15 percent chance of severe weather on Day 5 (Wednesday) which is rare to see this far out in time. So the middle of next week will bear watching as PWATs are progged to climb into the 1.5-2 inch neighborhood by Tuesday into Thursday Sometimes quite localized areas get repeatedly hammered. Looks at just RI, ern MA, an Downeast ME Jan-Feb 2015. It was relentless! But regarding snowstorms and the synoptic scale, the odds of them all just whaling on this small part of New England for 6 weeks? That's pretty incredible, YET it happened! I've done Dvorak analysis and classification for TCs globally for 5 years at my current job, and the details often are everything! "Tstms blossoming around the center," one must ask, "is it smooth, persistent, and banded convection or just irregular blobs pulsing up and down?" This difference is huge as to signs of organization or short-term trends. Also, it makes a difference if the convection blossoms right over the center vs. it not. The former is much better for intensification potential. At about 1230z on 9/1 we finally saw this w/ Edouard after hours of blob convection away from the center and then it started to intensify markedly. "Angle of thunderstorms" No one in tropical met field ever says that. It reminds me of what Bill Paxton said in 'Twister' -- "look at the ANGLE of the updraft!" Artistic license for the movie! "Compact storm, just needs to spin more...good sign it's strengthening" Well, thanks Captain Obvious, we know it is a compact storm, and spinning more is good thing, but how about some actual empirical observations rather than drivel speculation!?
