We did well here, too. 0.83" overnight. The "storm" after midnight must have had a pretty good wind component to it, because I registered an 18.6mph gust at 12:35am, which, for my station and it's protected location, is quite impressive. Even on the windiest of days, I rarely record a gust over 15mph.

TheDreamTraveler
20 hours ago, ChescoWx said: A really interesting statistic for the entire USA which exactly mirrors the data I share here from the philly burbs of Chester County. This below analysis measures not the typical metric of 90+ days but unusual hot periods of at least 4 days on average across the entire country where the average temperature reaches a level based on historical records that would be expected to only occur once every 10 years. Look how much hotter the entire nation was back in 1930's and 1940's compared to today! No matter how much we hear about how hot it is today we have still not reached that peak heating from the 1930 through 1942 period which matches the hottest period here in Chester County PA. The heat waves in the 1930's are very interesting. I read about them a year or so ago more in depth. Basically our poor farming methods out in the midwest were completely destroying the soil leaving it unable to retain moisture combined with a very dry and hot decade that was only made hotter because we weren't doing the methods we started using after the dust bowl era. It's also interesting too that there were some downstream effects from there constantly being so much heat over the US from this that effected Asia which is neat. But yeah the soil was basically unable to retain moisture which allowed it to get superheated compared to how it normally is. Then after that we started practicing more efficient farming which allowed it to not get as hot. Remember too the 1930's dust bowl era is mostly a US phenomenon besides the downstream effect in Asia I mentioned.

Yes I agree while some of us had good rains this week (i had 1.37 this week) others missed out and are very dry, I started irrigating, pumping water out of the creek last Friday for our garden on a sprinkler system (more like a truck patch). Now that I got 1.37 rain this week and irrigating, my garden is actually too wet now at places.

The radar is actually starting to fill in and develop some taller echoes at the moment. Hopefully we can get some of those into our area today.

mahantango#1
Note: With the expected heat coming next week. Everyone should try to take it easy and be aware of these warning signs for your health. This is not for this weekend. But maybe our area might have similar conditions later next week.
Voyager
Today is the wife's employer's annual Knoebels summer picnic. Of course the worst weather a week before and week after would be today. And by that I mean the rain. The overcast and moderate temperatures would make for a nice, comfortable day otherwise.

Jns2183
Blistering heat coming. This is a PAC004 Lower Susquehanna analog monitor using 133 years of data. The analogs split into two camps: recovery years, where a real July/August rain break arrived, and grind years, where the pattern stayed dry enough that small rains failed to reset the soil.Recovery camp: 1898, 1900, 1921, 1934, 2010, 2024.Grind camp: 1913, 1944, 1964, 1966, 1999.The 2026 line starts inside the recovery envelope, but by July 12 it peels toward the dry edge, about -1.0σ from recovery and past the grind mean. The key window is July 7–20. Around 73% of analogs had their first half-inch rain by July 20.So this is not a locked-in drought verdict yet, but the current track is leaning grind unless we get a meaningful half-inch-plus rain event by mid-July.Sent from my SM-S731U using Tapatalk
Voyager
What an f'n miserable day. I haven't felt good, physically or mentally, for the past 6 months, and needed a nice day out. Instead mother nature, or God, or whomever, doubled down and just made things worse. I just can't seem to win anymore...

Yardstickgozinya
I just took a walk i've been trying to avoid to assess edaphic stress on the lower layers.. This is another dire situation for our farmers, especially rubus field's without irrigation. BIosemiotic abortion has begun in all rubus and that won't be reversed even with rain at this point. Yardstickgozinya
Generally we dry out after the main vegetative cycle is over. Drying out like this while things were in their main vegetative stage isn't something we see a whole lot, and it's going to be a lot worse then if it were later. It also may not be as bad for many of you as what i'm witnessing here, i've been missed by almost everything over the last a few weeks.
Yardstickgozinya
I was just thinking to myself about the corn crop. The fields aren't going to look the same after next week. I'm going to go out on a limband say that Pennsylvania agriculture is looking down the barrel of a season, that could end up more disastrous. than 1930 or 1999 by a long shot. canderson
NWS anll over screwed up this system. We met friends at the national zoo and Sterling had heavy rain and showers all day. Not a drop and sunny there. Here we were supposed to get heavy rain overnight. .05” total for me the last two days. It’s drier than dry.
