January 25-26 Winter Storm Potential

This sidewalk was shoveled about 30 minutes ago.  At least a 1/4" of sleet now.  And a 7 ft mound to stick around into February.

4:50 - Whitehall, PA - Back to heavy sleet, little to no flakes.  Have a feeling its going to be like this back and forth until the system pulls away.

Sleet line holding pretty strong to our south and west. Hope it stays that way and we never flip to ZR

This mix should be this way until 9pm as the secondary starts wrapping up. As it pulls away 2-4 in may happen in the LV. Then comes the serious drifting and really cold temps again

About a mile south of Geets Diner - we are probably 80/20 IP/ZR, now at 27F

In Pike Creek, DE, I'm measuring anywhere between 9 - 11 in of snow and sleet in my yard. Call it around 10 avg.  What a shame that we didn't have snow for the whole time.  Would have been an 16-22 incher.

Yeah, could have been huge without the sleet.  Still a great winter storm, though.  It's been like 15 hours of frozen precip now.

Really strange i figured with all this sleet the snow would have a crust on it but it still seems powdery

Did a 5pm measurement and got another 0.75" of sleet and now have a snow/sleet total of 5.75"  Still had heavy sleet going at the time but it is like course sand - easy to push and it was easy to clear the board.  It keeps drifting up to my back door and now my front door.  

ZR line looks to be approaching just below the city.

Gonna say it again - NAM nailed it.

Well it's definitely put a lot of stuff on the ground, and 10+ inches is the most we've gotten here in over a decade.  But the blockbuster accumulation was juuuuust a couple of degrees away at 700-850 millibars

Nam was right in the amount of sleet that would mix in, but the front end thump was a lot more than was forecast.

Your measurement feels super low? I’m at 9”+ total here and don’t think I’m that far from you and the airport reported 7” a couple hours ago I believe

Just got in from shoveling a 3rd time, but this was the 2" of mostly sleet that have fallen since around 1 pm (6" worth of 10:1 snow by mass) and it was tough.  So, between 3 and 5 pm we got 1" of pure sleet giving us 2" since 1 pm, when we had 8.3", so we're now at 10.3" of sleet/snow, besting my 10.1" guess.  It's up to 17F and hoping no ZR in the last 0.4-0.5 QPF the HRRR says we'll get (mostly sleet) by midnight, but the HRRR is showing 0.1" ZR.  What a storm!

The other models weren't showing ip until Sunday and were overdoing the snow thump in the I-95 corridor/city. 

Paul had posted a NAM sleet map back last Thursday and it was persistent with it.  It was just the past day or two when the weather services had to scale back the city numbers.  The other models were also discounting the ZR and now you have ZR in south Jersey and moving in to PA.

Blowing and drifting.  I have over 1 ft drifts and I know that snow blew off the top of accumulation where my board is.  When I stepped out on the patio for my 5 pm measurement, I really sunk in and I did do some ruler measurements at other locations on the patio at that time, and was getting anywhere from 7' - 11" at 5 pm (patio is poured concrete but I have a bunch of containers out there too so I really don't have a good flat surface for the board except up on a table.  The 4" measurement was done at around 11 am before the switch to sleet that happened just before noon.

Little angry about getting cheated with sleet with so many heavy sleet reports. It's been falling at not quite .25" hour since the change.
