New Years Day 2026 - 1st snows of the new year possible

Models have been coming into a clearer signal for som light snows over the area for New Years Day. Very strong s/w diving south out of Canada. It’s pretty strung out now so the current system is models rather meager with the storm internsifying offshore. If we can can consolidate the energy better as it’s raining the base of the trough we have possibility of deeper development sooner. Something to watch. Currently this looks like a light event with areas further south and east.

1-2” for most of SNE as modeled. Could see 3-5” CC

HRRR is interesting. Looks like a narrow bar of enhanced snow. And coatings to an inch around it.

NAM would be a couple. Maybe 3 inches near the canal.

Could just dig that a bit more, we’d probably be talking widespread advisory

If this follows the tenor of this season…it’ll probably juice up some. 1-3” would be a nice refresher.

Yeah. Looks like cape and Se Mass is the place for some possible enhancement as it develops offshore. I wouldn’t expect more than a C-1 outside of that area

Yes Cape and extreme SEMA, DE Maine will see the highest totals, Congrats Eastport as this is a late bloomer in the GOM.

Also there could be some OES enhancement with relatively warm sst in mid 40s and 800Mb temps around -12C.

I don’t think anyone, anywhere in SNE can be punting any snow prospects. Anything beyond Thursday is a pipe dream. I’m all set chasing fantasy snow

The surface low tracks through NNE…this sucker is moisture starved. But SW flow over the ocean waters will help moisten it up for SE MA.

Yup...great post. The environment isn't too terribly far off from what you would see with a LES environment. Should actually be some weak instability present...not sure if we're looking at enough to yield thunder potential but I could see a very narrow area of enhanced lift. Someone could def pull off 3-4" on the Cape
