Jns2183
Our last storm I figured out the snowfall maps at 24 hours by the major models were not that much better than at 60 hours. The qpf maps were. I just think inherently the variation in ratios and qpf over such small areas is an absolute hurdle unless you're going to throw stupid amounts of $ via processing power and even then, you may get a bit more accurate. It isn't even the models are bad, it's just an impossible taskSent from my SM-S731U using Tapatalk
Ruin
how many days has it been now we havent hit the freezing mark. We are very well below normal for this winter in temps so far. I think the long range winter models showed cold early on but warming end of jan into feb that doesnt look accurate at all any more.
CarlislePaWx
Forgot to chime in earlier today with my low temp. Finally hit and broke below zero degrees with a reading of -0.6 degrees from my primary station and a low of -1.1 degrees from my Tempest, which is roughly 15 feet away and a bit more exposed. Either way both those readings round to -1 officially. I'm staring out my back window and thinking wow, this snowpack has actually lasted one full week! lol Yesterday morning I dropped to +0.6 degrees, so officially +1 degree F. If it wasn't for the 1.13" of liquid that fell last Sunday, I would be ending this month with only 0.60". Instead I'm ending with 1.73" which is still well below normal and unfortunately continues the drought. Finally, looking like my high for today is going to be 20.8 degrees. Should be interesting to see how low we can go early this evening under the clear skies before clouds come in and ruin it. Finally, I can't believe that there is only 1 day this week forecast to break 32 and that is Tuesday with a high of 33. If that happens, the remainder of the week will stay below freezing. Furthermore, another big arctic blast appears to be on the horizon for next Saturday with a forecast high of just 20.

I'm already down to 15.4 after a high of 20.7. Give me several hours of clear skies this evening and that might do the trick.
Itstrainingtime
@Blizzard of 93 it's going to snow again and probably sooner than later. Maybe a small event or two over the next couple of weeks before a window for something bigger opens around mid February.

canderson
It’s cool NYC has snow melting hot tub contraptions. I want one. It’s not cool the number of truckers that haven’t scraped the top of their trailers. The amount of ice chunks falling is scary.

I want someone to tell me how I (or any of my fellow drivers) am/are supposed to safely climb up on a 13 ft high trailer, with no safety equipment, and clean it off. A trailer roof is made of either aluminum or fiberglass. Do you know how slippery they are with snow on them. Just try to stand on a snowy car hood or roof and see if you don't slide around. Some warehouses have roof scrapers, but most do not. I've not yet seen a truck stop with one. Are we to grab a ladder (from God knows where) and climb up there with a shovel? Unrestrained? If a driver slips and falls, where do you think he's going end up?

I wish PA cops ticketed cars with roof snow, on trucks it is more of a safety issue.

Instead of making laws for truckers to clean the roof, the law should have required scrapers in all truck stops, weigh stations, rest areas, and shippers and receivers. Placing the responsibility of snow removal on car drivers is reasonable. For truckers it is not, because unless you can drive under a scraper, there isn't a safe way for a driver to remove the snow.

Trouble is most trucks are too big height wise to fit under it.

Jns2183
Low of 8. Glad to hear the threats for next week are looking promising. Always nice to get a couple refreshers to aid the pack and whiten things up. Speaking of snow pack. We are officially in a top 25 winter. As we are currently tied for 25th at 7 days for consecutive days of at least 7" of snow. To make it top 20 we need to hit 10 days. If we lose an inch then 11 days. Regardless with the forecast cold and chance of added snow we are primed for a top 20 winter ever in terms of snowpack duration.
