Well, the snow is still mostly snow here, but I'm standing on my front porch and it's getting increasing noisy, so sleet is mixing in here as well.

Dammit. Thought I might survive without the pingers...

Guess the NAM might have gotten it right upstairs after all.

MDT is already at .92 precip as of noon with all snow recorded thus far.

Mix is imminent, so a couple of inches of sleet are not out of the question with observations to our south.

I think @canderson & both went with a little over 12 at MDT. I think we are both still alive in the contest, lol!

The guesses above 12 are likely out of it.

The contest will likely come down to me vs. Blizz. I have 8.2 and Blizz you took 12.3 putting the number at 10.25. I agree that we have a ways to go yet with accumulating sleet and a changeover back to snow at the end very much in play.

The 3k nam from 0Z last night had them at 0.50" as of noon. Which seems to have been the theme of the name since Virginia. Correct with the thermals, horrible with qpf. Which is why total accumulation was off.

Also once the sleet started I hope everyone with boards took measurements and cleared board. Sleet on top of dry snow = big compression. To get accurate accumulation you have to measure the sleet portion of storm seperate

100% correct! I'd guess most areas will tack on a couple of inches of additional accumulation in the form of sleet. So if you had 8" of snow you may very well reach double figures when it's done. If you don't/didn't measure at transition time you might record half of what you actually got due to sleet compaction.

12:22pm to 12:40pm the sleet line crashed 23miles in 20 minutes. Maybe this is what @MAG5035 was talking about with the coastal ramping up. Some models did have line crashing. To early to tellScreenshot_2026-01-25_124357.jpgScreenshot_2026-01-25_124403.jpg

This checks out. I think I was at about the northern extend of the sleet shield here and it's back to heavy, heavy snow.

Although now I'm starting to get some big fat flakes coming down as well. Battle zone going on over my house I guess.

Currently in Huntingdon county. Will be back in Clearfield at some point in the next year or so.

To people wondering "Why?" I'm at SCI-Huntingdon doing a stay. Got caught f'n the mayor's wife and they threw me away. On my first day I beat up the King Dick and made him my bitch. This is his phone I use. He had a corrupt CO smuggle it in and as He Who Controls the Smack, Controls the Joint, I have a phone.

:D

For what it’s worth, the 12z Euro didn’t back down and still had predominantly snow from the turnpike on to the north in the LSV this afternoon & evening and stuck to its 12 to 15 total.

Not sure what that means, if anything At this point.

Can you post that?

Crashing in central PA but still slightly rising in eastern.

Thanks. Hopefully it crashes east soon. Still have a few big flakes falling, but mostly sleet. Someone over in the Philly thread said the sleet line was racing northward towards Scranton currently.

Now, do I clean my measuring area, or wait to see if it flips back?
