Imagine tracking weather in hopes of a winter and expressing disappointment when it doesn’t happen. God forbid!!! 1
RevWarReenactor
The flip to cold and snowy by mid January will not happen. You heard it here folks. Fast forward, its January 15th. Meh pattern. Minor cold. Some torch. No snow. But End of January will look great! Lets revisit this post.
Eskimo Joe
I don't think any of the analogs that Webber has listed below were particularly good winters in these parts?

Uhhh…82-83 had a KU? 14-15 was a very good winter. 97-98 was a blowtorch super Nino. 06-07 and 18-19 were fair to good depending on location. Appreciate the info. You are correct in that 2006-07 was decent when I was in Lancaster/Philly. 2014-15 was okay down here in Baltimore. 1997-98 and 2018-2019 were hot garbage, IMO. That northern fringe actually stretched as far south as Baltimore. Jan 2019 fringe hurt, lol It was nice scenery with 4.9" but we definitely missed the bulk of it

bncho
Most of you know that I'm an optimist, but even I can't help but get a little bit worried. We're wasting half of January to wait for a 7/10 highly volatile -EPO/+TNH pattern and a wild card February and March. Will it be as bad as 22-23. 19-20, 16-17, etc.? I don't think so yet. We are in midst of the worst 4 year stretch in recorded history for Hagerstown. We have averaged 12 inches a year for the past 4 years . Places further south and further east have had closer to normal seasons recently but for Northern MD areas, down into the West Va panhandle it's been a brutal stretch. And I'm not exaggerating for the worst 4 year stretch on record for HGR. It's been really ,really bad. The last season above 20" was 20/21. Hagerstown area average is upper 20's

PrinceFrederickWx
None of this is surprising, it’s pretty much on-brand for a La Nina: the front-loaded cold, the dry air, the snow hole over the mid-Atlantic, etc. If we were seeing lots of Perfect Track Rainstorms like a few years ago I’d be pissed and start talking about “the elephant”, but this winter has been what I expected so far, looking historically. I don’t think we’re done with snow yet anyway.
