9.5" snow depth wtf

I suspect elevation will play a role in this one....some valley locales may struggle to accumulate. I suspect a slushy 2 inches above 600ft and less than an inch below 400 feet

Snow cover at 6" - our high so today was 46.1 our warmest in exactly 1 month since the 49.7 on January 14th. Tomorrow will be our 30th consecutive day with snow cover this will be 13th longest stretch and 20th longest streak on record since 1893.

1-3” will be a nice little refresher. But I’m satisfied with this winter due to prolonged cold, prolonged snowpack and a 10”+ storm here. More snow is a bonus. Yes, may not get a 12-24” this winter, but those are rare.

This morning marks the third week of solid snow cover.  Was the snow cover even around this long in 2010?

I don't think so. The winter started to flip after Snowmageddon. I believe we had a rain storm the 22nd, and one small snow event on the 26th. After that, it was essentially spring. (By the time we got to the first week of April, we had 90 degree temps on the 6th and 7th, completing one of the most impressive weather flips ever.)

I think 2014 had a better chance of the snow staying that long. That was a year that we got snowstorm after snowstorm from the beginning of January to mid-March.

Here in Chesco we will tie the 31 days of cover from 2010 tomorrow - but we actually had 32 days of snow cover just 5 years ago in 2021 we had 32 straight days with snow on the ground.

Our 13th winter event of the season arrives tonight followed by milder but wet weather most of this upcoming week. We should see rain overspreading the area from SW to NE across the area between 3pm and 5pm. The rain should mix with and change to snow especially over the higher ground of NW Chester and SE Berks Counties. Those higher spots over 600ft ASL could see up to a couple inches of slushy snow on non-paved surfaces. Lower spots should have a tougher time seeing much snow accumulation but either way roads should remain wet. Temperatures tomorrow today and tomorrow will be close to normal near 40 degrees. Except for tonight and Monday night we should see overnight lows remain above freezing till next weekend. We will also see rain on Wednesday and again on Thursday night through Friday. Some areas may finally get rid of this snow cover that has been on the ground for more than a month.

Sigh…I will take my 1-2” tonight and like it. It just hurts a little knowing how close this was to something more significant.
