If I were betting on this, seasonal mid-February, warm March, and torch April is the way to go. Just look at 2015. The bottom fell out of the thermometer in February, March was below average (mostly due to the first week), but things turned warmer in April, and May was near record warm. From your keyboard to God's ears... This winter has completely stolen my soul. I don't mind the cold snaps if we can moderate periodically in between, but this year the cold has been relentless. Some love it. I don't.
Birds~69
Damn birds chirping out there like no one’s business putting a damper on the winter vibe. Cold, snow piles all around and birds chirping just don’t mix… 17f
ChescoWx
Today, across multiple sites in Chester County will be the 13th consecutive day with below freezing temperatures. This is already the 3rd longest streak since 1893. These locations should establish a new prolonged cold record on Monday which will be the 17th day. Also, today will be the 20th consecutive day with continuous snow cover. This is the 22nd longest stretch with snow cover since 1893 and our longest streak since the 32 days from January 31, 2021 through March 3, 2021. Our greatest stretch was the 61 days back in 1978 from January 12th through March 13th. We continue with well below normal temperatures through early next week. An arctic cold front crosses the area overnight Friday into Saturday morning likely to bring potentially brief heavy snow squalls with an inch or two of snow possible in spots with briefly poor visibility and driving conditions. Highs for Saturday will occur just before dawn with temperatures then crash into the single digits during the day with wind chills in the minus teens below zero. What a memorable winter this has already been and we still have more than 6 weeks to go!

I think the surprising thing is how common this really is over there in Western ChesCo. The creative ranking makes it seem more impressive, but really 39 years had as long or longer stretches (of what 132, 133 winters - maybe less if there's incomplete data?). So about 30% of the time assuming full data, perhaps higher. Not too bad - looks like you guys were due for a harsh one with just one such stretch since 2015 prior to the current one! I suppose there's some time to climb on the list still as well this go around. Curious - do you always count ties as only one rank? 22nd longest really makes it sound so much more impressive than tied with 4 other years for 36th longest, which is how it actually ranks unless I'm misunderstanding your data above? Mikeymac5306
The midweek storm shreds the weekend storm apart per GFS. We would still get a nice event. CMC shows a weak front next midweek followed by a cutter.

I'm ready for some fresh powder to blow around, but imagine this cold spell with bare ground or a dusting, no thanks. This has been awesome, even exceptional. Hoping for at least one more significant snow, ideally while some of what we have is still on the ground. I am enjoying this winter! I did try sledding earlier, and I either need to lose some weight or get a bigger sled, the sleet layer was settling underneath the sled and slowing me down. If I got up to speed faster it might work. Fun stuff, lol. 23F currently.
