ChescoWx Posted yesterday at 06:31 PM Share Posted yesterday at 06:31 PM Last night before midnight was our first below freezing temperature here in East Nantmeal since back on April 9th. That ends our freeze free growing season here in NW Chester County at 215 days. In the last 22 years the growing season has ranged from a few as 174 days in 2020 to 233 days in both 2005 and 2024. The earliest first freeze was October 13, 2012 and the latest November 23rd 2015. There has been some occasional snow flurries around the area today with temperatures remaining well below normal for mid-November with highs in the upper 30's. In fact, our high temperatures should stay below normal through the rest of the work week with highs remaining in the 40's in the hills and near 50 degrees in the valleys. We warm up well into the 50's by Sunday with rain chances increasing by then.

ChescoWx
If the below climate forecast model is to be believed....our area in the Northeast across the Northern Mid Atlantic would see some of the coldest temperatures relative to average over the next month through December 11th

ChescoWx
Today should be almost 10 degrees warmer than yesterday...but still a few degrees below normal for mid-November with highs in the upper 40's to around 50 degrees. Temperatures look to stay near to below normal through Saturday before we briefly warm to above normal Sunday before falling back below normal to start the new work week. Our next rain chance looks to arrive Saturday night into Sunday.
Mikeymac5306
Knew nothing about the Auora last night till my son mentioned it at 9:30. Amazing that it was that clear, and even more beautiful behind a lens. BTW welcome back all the snowbirds to the forum. Happy tracking. Let's have some fun. Don't take it too seriously.
LVblizzard
Hearing on social media that tonight’s solar storm could be even more intense than last night. It looks like there will be some clouds around but nothing to significantly impede aurora viewing.

That is exactly what I observed 10-10:30pm for about 15 minutes Don't understand the science enough to know how the coverage works over the hemisphere but all these brilliant observations between 9-10 to Mexico and Florida and I was observing only a little dull green on the horizon despite the break in the clouds. It was like being in the 2016 blizzard score zone with only virga.

ChescoWx
I have continued to update the Chester County Weather website and have now completed and added a listing of the largest Chester County snowstorms across the 7 months of the year - October through April that we have recorded snow events. https://chescowx.com/top-snowfalls-by-month/ this includes the 2nd largest snowstorm in County history that occurred in March 1958 when between 19" to as much as 50" of snow fell across Chester and SE Berks Counties. ChescoWx
Climate factoid of the day. Someone posted last week that it seems like it never snows before Christmas here in Chester County. So, I went back and looked to see how often we have not recorded any measurable snow by Christmas Day. The data shows we actually have seen measurable snow 92% of the time before Christmas. There have only been 11 years across 132 years of record that no station in the county recorded measurable (more than a trace) of snow. Those years were 1899 / 1918/ 1956 / 1965 / 1974 / 1991 / 1999 / 2001 / 2006 / 2015 and 2021.
