IrishRob17
Just a reminder for people who want to shorten it today and don't have a clue. That said, according to @BxEngine the Irish invented the greatest goodbye and that's all that really matters anyway.

LongBeachSurfFreak Posted yesterday at 09:16 PM Share Posted yesterday at 09:16 PM flowering cherry trees should all be cut down and replaced with nativesThis is true. They are super invasive. They are all over the NY Botanical garden in some of the old growth patches. (The majority of the forest is second growth but there is some old growth in the Bronx river ravine).

Eastern Redbud is a better choice.
LongBeachSurfFreak
While I agree in principle, most of the non-native flowering cherries are sterile. Eastern Redbud is a better choice. The newer cultivars are sterile but the originals where brought over before anyone put any thought into invasive potential. There are saplings allllll over the place in NYBG and they are actively trying to eradicate them. Red bud is a great tree but weak in storms so not really suited to coastal locations. .
