There were many above average highs which boosted the average. But the 90° day count was much lower last year. Many 85°+ days helped to boost the average high. But 2010 stands alone for 90° days from June 1st through July 28th.

Did the 90 degree highs slow down after July in 2010? I recall August and September being very hot too, with 95+ degrees even in September.

thanks, this really puts 2025 on par with other very hot summers. 2010 beat all the records from 1983.

Yeah, they usually slowed down in August except for years like 2005.

You can see the sea breeze front on radar between LGA and JFK.

1959 and 1995 also had a marked increase.

The only August 100 degree temperatures were in 1948 (2 in a row) and 1983-- in both years it happened August 20th or later.

Can we expect that to continue moving north?

One of my geoengineering projects would be to build a giant transparent seawall to keep the demonic sea breeze away from land.  You could still see the ocean without any of the dreaded impacts of the sea breeze.
