Just for posterity’s sake, wasn’t the winter of ‘75-‘76 cold?

Quick glance at the monthly charts... looks like that year was the warmest November on record?  Average December, Cold January.  Only 5” of November snow, then an average rest of season... 82” on the season that year...

Hell I’d be happy with just an average winter (90”+).

If Jan is going to be below normal with an open lake and peak winter conditions there will be lots of potential. I would take that. From every forecast I've seen Dec 15-Jan 15th will be the best part of winter. That is also my favorite winter period so sign me up!

Could we see an epic event for the metro this year?

Later Sunday night a shortwave arriving from the north will bring a
colder airmass across the region for the beginning of next week.
This shortwave, deepening the long wave trough over our region will
also bring enough cold air to transition lingering rain showers
Monday over to lake effect rain/snow showers Monday night and
Tuesday. It will be marginally cold enough for snow, with the lake
belts east and southeast of both lakes possibly receiving
accumulating lake snows. Within this west to northwest flow Monday
and into Tuesday, breezy conditions are expected with gusts possibly
over 35 mph.
