hlcater
Another storm yanked away from us less than 24hrs from the onset. I don’t think this happens more to any other city.
Hoosier
Be careful if you're going out for New Year's, even if not in the main snow area. LOT had this to say: With the surface low associated with this system tracking across or just east of our eastern cwa Monday, low level winds will back to the north during the afternoon and evening hours, brining colder air back into the forecast area. Cooling of the column is expected to produce a transition from rain back to a rain/snow/freezing rain mix across north central IL by Monday evening. Some wet snow accumulation is possible during the evening across northern IL, though precipitation intensity will diminish fairly quickly as drier air spreads in aloft. Drying aloft, and the loss of saturation in the -10C or colder ice nucleation layer will likely result in precip transitioning to drizzle/freezing drizzle overnight. Persistent southwest flow aloft, with a moist boundary layer trapped by a sharp inversion, may result in this drizzle/freezing drizzle/light snow or flurries persisting through much of Tuesday. Forecast soundings depict a gradual cooling/drying trend from the northwest by Tuesday night, which should bring an end to the precip. This scenario would obviously have slippery travel impacts during the New Years Eve/Day holiday. Ratzer

I got my Jameson and “The truth IPA by flying dog brewery” which is a delicious beer for any IPA lovers! Looking like another 40 degree rainer tomorrow. Boo. Hoosier
Would anticipate that LOT issues a winter weather advisory for Monday morning freezing rain, especially north/west of Chicago. Cook county/southward is more marginal and may have little or nothing, but northwestern Cook could have issues. There won't be a whole lot of leeway for evaporational cooling, but dews may be just low enough at onset to try to temporarily counteract the low level warming. Geoboy645
Well MKX has under a WWA right now. Currently saying 1-3 inches of snow with some freezing rain to begin and possibly end this event. This is going to be one interesting forecast. Tomorrow looks like a day that if we didn't have winter break would be an early release day.

LOT afternoon forecast is like I drew it myself lol. Advisory west and north of Chicago... Cook is also included with the text specifying northwest. cyclone77
Yeah wwa here for that brief ice potential. Looks like brief glazing followed by about 1/2-3/4" of cold rain. Wet snow at tail-end looking less likely now, but perhaps some flurries tomorrow night/Tue morning.
kevlon62
30 and rain (ZR). Lake Geneva. Kind of racing to stay ahead of this precip on commute to MKE.Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk
cyclone77
Moderate rain and 34 currently. Was too warm for freezing rain earlier. System is quite a bit further west than what models showed yesterday. Now looks like as far west as central Iowa could get a period of snow this afternoon. CheeselandSkies
Can't remember the last time MBY was included in an SPC winter wx MD. Currently just rain at MSN as we're still hovering just above freezing. https://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/md/md1748.html

hawkeye_wx
The latest euro drops a few inches on Cedar Rapids this afternoon, but the HRRR is less aggressive with the changeover. We're still 34 and rain.
cyclone77
0.58" of rain so far. Temps in the teens in northwest Iowa, so the cold air wasn't too far away. Was very close to being a nice widespread snowstorm for many.
ILwxchr
Classic mid-latitude cyclone on satellite, very impressive looking storm imo, sad that this isn't all snow. We had some really heavy rain here in Western IL this morning. I bet we would have a swath of at least 6 to 10 inches if this were all snow. December 31st and we are seeing rain....:(

IWXwx
I have a sneaking suspicion that my Davis Wx Station needs the barometer calibrated as it is showing 992.6mb. The low isn't even overhead, it is still just to my wsw. It should be around

CheeselandSkies
My gf just got here after driving back from NW Indiana...she said the transition from rain to snow was pretty abrupt as she got to Madison. Not much of a zone of mix/ZR slop, so that's a silver lining.
sielicki
Decent amount of snow here in Dell Prairie, WI (in-between Wisconsin Dells, WI and Oxford, WI).
