Temp has really dropped off over the last hour.  Temp has dropped from around zero to -4 in a short amount of time.  Tomorrow night could get real interesting.  Models show the high moving right through the area by daybreak Tue morning.  Could see some more extreme drop offs in certain drainage sites.

-18 at IKK (Kankakee) is very impressive for Feb 10!

ORD only hit -3 due to UHI.  RFD hit -14.

Aurora hit -21, even though winds never really dropped below 5 mph.  I guess I'd attribute this to deep snow cover, as the antecedent air mass isn't terribly cold.

Yep. Seems the Kankakee airport has turned into a mini Aurora. But, yeah...deep snow cover definitely helping things along.

Also, that's the 24th sub-zero temp at IKK this winter. Say it all the time...but what a winter. :)

Rochelle is like a mini Aurora as well. They were like -23° this morning.  :shiver:

I'm an unabashed winter weenie. Love this sh*t. Some pics from my parent's hood from today, with a bluebird sky backdrop.

Preach on brother! :)

Winter is on its last legs and is always fleeting around here...so let's enjoy every last minute of it.

We should see a huge spread for temps in the Chicago metro area tonight...guessing 0 downtown, -10 ORD, -15 most suburbs outside of Cook County, and -20 to -25 in the colder spots like Aurora.

Made it to 7 above today.  Back to 2 already.  City is asking residents to run faucets continuously.  Apparently they're worried about the actual city lines freezing up.  Not good.

City lines have also frozen in some areas of the community of Knox Indiana as well per media reports.  Gil NIU also mentioned today that he has concern for older municipal lines in the coming weeks as temps begin to thaw.

-11 at RPJ already as of 615 CST. After -26 this morning with a light wind, could make a run at -30 with calm winds tonight. -7 at ARR at the top of the hour.

Any possibility that someone can stand out in Rochelle with a thermometer, in case the state record gets close to being broken?  I'll gladly volunteer, seriously.   :)

I think there were some issues in January 2009, when they erroneously reported a temp of -37 (?).

Of course you can't extrapolate it perfectly...but it's currently 16 degrees colder at RPJ vs. this time yesterday.

Wow.  Sterling hit -29 on Feb 3 so it'll be interesting to see how cold they get too.  They didn't get very cold this morning compared to some areas.

Air is extremely dry.  Dew here is -16.
