Both the HRRR and RAP indicate snow into the area sporadically from 20-00Z, mostly HPN and southward but both do not appear to be handling the event well based on where precip is falling and what they show at 14Z...a blend of the 00Z Euro and 06Z RGEM seem to be handling the precip in the DC area the best right now where IAD is already snowing and alot of other areas soon will be.

What's a good timeframe for light snow to be falling in our area...( NYC and points N+W)

All, this is way faster than progged. Snowing (albeit lightly) in Central Jersey already under the mod band. Just saw with my own eyes in Moorestown, NJ via FaceTime. Forecasted start time was 3-4 hours from now down there.

That band is moving almost due east. Nobody north of I-195 is going to see snow anytime soon

http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?product=NCR&rid=dix&loop=yes   Heaviest snow to 195 , The Northwestern  side of this  should increase and prob gets to 78 within the hour or so .

The  WAA is south to north , not due East . as the 850`s are coming north it should allow the shield to blossom north , NAM looks  better than the GFS in this . Its higher RES may have seen the WAA better .

Take a look at the traffic cams just south of 195-  roads are covered , and in CNJ temps still In the upper 20`s , will fall a few degrees once the snow starts and then climb above freezing by tonite

But I thnk a lot of places in CNJ see 2 inches before that happens .
