What defines "cold" in their minds at the end of March/early April? Normal daytime highs are into the 50's by then

It's relative to the time period. But if it's in the 30's when it's supposed to be in the 50's then it is considered cold or chilly. It can also be colder considering snow is still possible well into April.

I understand but if they think highs are going to be in the 30's, that's calling for temps over 20 degrees below average

Bernie Rayno is convinced tonight's 0z runs will move south, thinks the cold high/confluence push behind the arctic front will shunt the precip field south and compress it. He thinks NYC itself and more so south of the city get the decent snow, basically thinks areas north of NYC get screwed FWIW.....

If the snow moves south further, NYC is looking to get fringed.

He's not sure. He mentions the possibility.

Joe Rayo at news 12 just updated the forecast and dropped amounts, yes, dropped them to a coating to an inch north and west of the city and 1-3 inches from the city south...

What guidance is he looking at......an inch? I will never post again if that happens for those north of the city.
