THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN UPTON HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER

ADVISORY FOR SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM EST THURSDAY.

* LOCATIONS...EASTERN PASSAIC...WESTERN BERGEN...WESTERN

ESSEX...WESTERN UNION...ROCKLAND... AND NORTHERN WESTCHESTER

COUNTIES.

* HAZARD TYPES...SNOW.

* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 2 TO 5 INCHES. LOCALLY

HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE AT ELEVATIONS ABOVE 800 FEET.

* WINDS...NORTH 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 50 MPH.

* VISIBILITIES...ONE QUARTER TO ONE HALF MILE AT TIMES.

* TEMPERATURES...IN THE MID 30S.

* TIMING...THE HEAVIEST SNOW WILL OCCUR THIS AFTERNOON AND

EVENING.

* IMPACTS...A COMBINATION OF SNOW...GUSTY WINDS...AND TEMPERATURES

AROUND FREEZING COULD MAKE TRAVEL DIFFICULT AT TIMES...ESPECIALLY

IN HIGHER ELEVATIONS. THIS COMBINATION ALSO COULD BRING DOWN

TREES AND POWER LINES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW...SLEET...OR

FREEZING RAIN WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR

SLIPPERY ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES...AND USE CAUTION WHILE

I'm no sun angle guy; but by 2:30 PM or so; especially out in the countryside, with the sun getting very low; should help the snow start to accumulate.

Hmm, dad said it changed to sleet and rain in Ewing. Not quite expected.

I could be wrong but the WSW for Philly proper *might* be overdone...heaviest precip *may* be displaced northeast of there...sort of like Dec 2000.

I can't wait to drive back to Westchester when the school days ends...some rain has mixed in here in Brooklyn right now with the precip being lighter. I'm sure it's still all snow up by HPN, however. That band coming ashore could make for some fun driving if it lays down an inch or two.

its 50/50 up in white plains, just left ehite plains 20 mins ago.

From Orange County Office of Emergency Management...

"OCEM has completed the NWS conference call and has received the following briefing;

The NWS has issued a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY and a WIND ADVISORY for the OC area through 4 a.m. Thursday morning.

NWS is anticipating the first effects of the coastal storm to begin appx 1pm with the storm intensity increasing around 3pm. Height of the storm will be between 7pm and midnight.

Winds are anticipated to be 20-25 mph sustained, 30-50 gusts with a potential wind peak of 60 mph.

Current forecast models indicate a snow/rain mix with 3-6 inches of heavy-wet snow with potential for up to 8 inches of snow in the higher elevation areas of the County.

Temperatures tonight are expected to be between low 30's and mid 20's. "
