Had my camera today as I was near the mall so I stopped for a few pics of a snowy winters post-mortem That is some skanky looking snow. Which reminds me, I saw a few small piles of snow left over in a parking lot here last Thursday. Amazing how it has still survived.
michsnowfreak
nasty It is..like I said, its crazy to think of how snow is one of the most beautiful things ever when freshly fallen, whereas its plowed remains after weeks of thawing (including 68 on 3/17 and 65 on 3/18) look like this. cyclone77
Huge temp contrast over our area. It's only 47 here, but just 25 miles southwest it's 59 at Moline. 75 in Burlington.

Chicago WX
Had my son drive my up the the Best Buy in LAF last weekend, and there was one snow pile left Yeah, the mall area had some monster piles while the getting was good. My friend actually drove over one of the piles last Thursday, not seeing it (of what small amount that was left). Of course it was St. Paddy's day/night... cyclone77
That baroclinic zone was forecast to be a whopper today and it certainly is. Yeah it's pretty impressive. I could jump in the car and drive about 45 miles south and see the temp rise from the 40s to near 70.
goknights
Looks like a week of boring cold in the upper midwest barring any surprises, then finally some indications of moderating temperatures as that block starts to move out.

This current storm surprised by being further north than forecasted, something to watch with the next 2 systems down the pipe. Hoosier
The April '82 snowstorm was damn impressive. LAF started as rain on the 5th but then changed to snow as temps fell through the 20's. Snow continued into the 6th and the high was only 27 that day.

Hoosier
Saw it on the NARR page. Very similar ul pattern to the one we're in now. How much snow did you get? Nearby COOP had 5". Heavier totals occurred farther north. Looks like a fairly windy storm...given that and the temps there must've been a significant amount of blowing and drifting. beavis1729
On 4/7/1982, ORD had a record low of 7 degrees with fresh snowcover, after the 8-9" snowstorm a couple days earlier. That's probably the most impressive record low in Chicago's history. Most of the record lows on surrounding dates are 10-15+ degrees warmer. I would have to agree with that, based on climo and time of year that was some feat. The winter 0f 1982 was a wild one, i remember it being cold and snowy. I lived in STL at the time and we had nearly 2 feet of snow that winter.
roardog
After the snow yesterday, this morning we have light lake effect snow showers and 19F. It looks and feels like January. It might not get above freezing for days even with sunshine. That's very impressive for late March.

Indystorm
Dusting of snow here overnight has virtually all melted now. The cold forecast for this next week will take some getting used to at this late date. We stayed cold this far north in IN where others to the south broke into the warmth with this past system. I am ready for spring in all its glory.
