  1. Hardly anything here and now tonight is looking dry. Oh well sprinklers running tomorrow morning on schedule
  2. Wishing today was my in-office day in DC so I could see this. Another split for good ol' Germandesert
  3. I remember the strong Nino in fall 2015 -- we turned on the damn AC at Christmas because it was so warm and humid and were talking about how it won't snow a flake in the upcoming winter. But then we got destroyed
  4. It's tough being in an orographic rain shadow! You need a post-tropical system moving up from the gulf with NW-ward moving training bands. Might be tough to get one of those with a building Nino in place.
  5. Surprised to see these pop ups this afternoon. Hoping for good rain tomorrow I was oggling the 110-117 degree heat index readings in south FL and found this (bad reading but wild to look at). Beach day?
  6. 0.7 from this round to go with the 1.0 from last night. If we can can round it off to 2.0 with the second round of showers it will be a great 24 hours!
  7. Really hoping for that one as I want more rain out of this. Lightning is delivering though!
  8. Nice heavy downpour for a few minutes and some good lightning but no wind. Already winding down. I hope we get a second round from the stuff developing in eastern WV
  9. That whole initial line skipped me -- hoping for the one moving NE thru Poolesville. SW to NE works for me -- lots of lightning in that one
  10. Off-topic but what a nice looking property! That line is really starting to congeal together now as it moves east
  11. I am hoping for a couple rounds of good thunderstorms with heavy rain and lots of lightning, bonus if second round is at night. But I don't want damaging severe. I've experienced baseball size hail twice (1978 and 1992) and I don't ever want to see that again
  12. 0.9 from the showers tonight and even better that was spread over several hours instead of all at once. Perfect! Hope some dry places really cash in tomorrow
  13. Got about 0.2. Hoping for more later
  14. Yes nice little shower moving thru. Hoping to get a lot of that tonight Nice band moving into the DC area
  15. Hoping to luck into some decent rains overnight as I don't trust tomorrow for my area. We don't do well in W-to-E moving thunderstorms
  16. I went on a nice walk just a while ago with the cool temps and cloud cover and had no idea about showers moving in. A decently heavy one is passing through right now -- I came pretty close to getting drenched!
  17. Just took a nice long walk at mid-day on August 1 at just 79 degrees. That's superb! Glad the smoke is not a ground level. DCA has only three 95-degree days so far (all last week). The closest station to me (3 SSW Damascus) has none and only four 90-degree days.
  18. 0.9 combined from yesterday and Friday with 4.4 total for July. That's decent but May and June were incredibly dry and we are still about 10" below for the year. It is a glorious 66 degrees right now and I'm gonna enjoy these next few cool mornings!
  19. Just over 0.5 to go with yesterday's 0.4. I have a some yard clean-up to do with lots of branches down including one about 10 feet long, and one butterfly bush split in half. I'll just cut it down to 15" and let it regenerate.
  20. Flush hit from that short-lived but strong storm! I estimate some gust to about 50 mph and sheets of rain. Will measure soon. Good two day stretch for a parched area. Sorry for those that missed out yet again
  21. Looks like just under 0.4 in the gauge. <Wendy's 80s Soviet commercial for you fellow X-ers> "very nice very niiiiice
  22. Moderate rain and lots of rolling lightning and thunder. Good stuff!
  23. Looks like the worst of that severe cell went to my north thru Clarksburg. Fine by me I don't want hail -- I like heavy rain and lightning. Just light stuff so far
  24. OK so that one one in SW Mont Co is moving NE -- that gives me a better chance as down-sloping doesn't kill those as much as the W-E movers. No hail though please! Just give me the business with rain
  25. It's the higher elevations from my SW all the way around to NE. Thunderstorms moving west to east typically split or fade right as they drop down over my area, then recover and reform just to my east. Happens over and over and so it takes a fluke to get a TS here. I've had one so far this summer. We do fine during the 5-6 months of 30 to 50s and rain from November to April
