I've never heard of the weather phenomenon known as "DANA" (high altitude isolated depression) which has caused the devastation in eastern Spain. It's an interesting read. "DANAs are intensified versions of what's known as a "cold drop," which occurs when a mass of warm air collides with a stagnant mass of cold air at an altitude of around 29,500 feet" What is DANA?

Record Halloween high for DC was 85 and the p&c is 84. Gonna be close! After some low 60s over the weekend we zoom back to 80 by midweek. Crazy Oh and @dailylurker on the lanternflies -- we have a lot and they like to hang out up in the trees. I've seen the drops falling esp in late afternoon as the sun is behind them. We have residue all over the deck. Soon it'll be getting all over our cars, etc. Thanks a lot Jinping

Highs around 80 today from way north of NY, all the way to FL and out to Wisconsin. Wild

(MIL paying $16,000 per year to insure small home on Marco Island). It's gotten to be too much and she is getting ready to sell. She's looking at condos. We'll see how the selling goes given the insurance costs.
-
My wife's mom has a little house (maybe 1200 SF?) well away from the beach on Marco Island, and the HO insurance is $16,000 per year!

Full overcast day on deck I hope we get the advertised days of sun starting tomorrow. And sun angle - wow yesterday I noticed that the neighbor's huge pin oak is now fully shading my butterfly garden. Couple more years and that will be summer too

Appreciate the overnight rain (about 1.5 inches) but I hate seeing so much of Sept eaten up by dark, dreary days. We have 5-plus months for that starting in November
-
Real worried about Tallahassee. The town is covered with tall pines and big oaks. I was at FSU in Nov. 1985 when Kate made landfall as a weakening cat-2 (cat-1 by the time it went thru Tally) and it was a mess with big trees down everywhere and some people without power for days/weeks. This thing looks scary

This weather is getting depressing. I'm jealous seeing sun and 80s as close by as WV
-
Sunny and about 80 for the next several days with comfortable humidity. This is why I love September! And for a bonus the damn cicadas are all dead I just hate seeing the days rapidly shorten and dread the "Darkness" that is coming (what I call Nov thru March)

My mom said she measured 3.29 compared to 5.19 that Raindrop app claimed, and those places that the app said 8-9 inches got more like 5. I think it's time to drop that one
-
Got 1.3 inches and have 7.5 for the month, compared to just 1.1 for July My parents just south of Dunkirk got over 5 inches and spots across the Bay from them got 8-9! Meanwhile Annapolis got a quarter inch

Whew! That cell scared me when it peaked with purple echoes on Radarscope but weakened just in time. Got some marble-sized hail, rain and lightning. I've seen baseball-sized hail twice and never want to again The second time was $1500 damage to my car and that was 1992 so like 4 or 5 thousand today

I hope the Shen valley cashes in big this afternoon/evening Hotter than I expected today -- partly sunny and 88/75

Nothing as front goes through dry but hey it'll be cooler tomorrow as I'm watering everything

Another beautiful morning! I'll try to ignore those temps I just saw for next week
-
Cloudy, breezy and a cool 67. Base state!

1.3 on Saturday and 0.8 yesterday, 6.2 for the month. What a turnaround from earlier in the summer! Grass has greened back up but trees got hurt. There are yards where smaller trees have lost so many leaves that it looks like November. Even my big maples are dropping some already
-
Cell tracking to my south which is fine, then one little lobe blew up on the north side which barely scraped here. It was heavy, wind whipped sheets of rain with pea-sized hail. Man it makes me wonder what the heart of that sucker was like just to my east. I got 0.5 catching just the very edge of that. Anyone in Gaithersburg or Laytonsville? Adding: whew boy now another cell blowing up just behind that heading NE

Sun starting to break thru and a humid 77/71 Got the dreaded flash flood watch. Hope we didn't jinx it!

Looks like good rain chances again but we need this thick cloud deck to break some Low clouds, light drizzle and 72. Making me think of soup recipes
