  1. the sea level rises that have been occurring in SC, FL and LA are pretty undeniable at this point, we've even seen it here on the south shore of LI.
  2. The issues I and others have about GMOs is that we dont want large companies to be able to copyright nature and then to sue people whose lands they blow onto- but we now have new tech that replaces GMO that is far better and does not need any pesticides. I also like universities and nonprofits developing tech far more than companies like the (former) Monsanto which has a pretty dark history and got sued into oblivion. Well now that's on Bayer's dirty hands lol.
  3. we see that now already with the dairy and meat industries being replaced with plant-based dairy and plant-based meat.... and thats a GREAT thing. The industries no longer have the influence they once did and only older people buy their products anymore because of their health effects and the impact they have on the environment. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Planck#Quantum_mechanics Further work only cemented quantum theory, even against his and Einstein's philosophical revulsions. Planck experienced the truth of his own earlier observation from his struggle with the older views in his younger years: "A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it."[30] https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/06/business/borden-dairy-bankruptcy/index.html it's good to see the dairy industry go bankrupt
  4. dying is a natural thing- he's just quoting Max Planck. Once people with old ideas die off they get replaced with people with new ideas- it's how nature works. When that generation looks back they will laugh at the deniers of this one. They already are.
  5. Oh you mean like the theory of evolution? In science "theory" doesn't mean what you think it means.
  6. Denmark is also pretty progressive, they are going to be 100% fossil fuel free soon, they have one of the largest solar and wind farms in the world. NY is headed in the same direction fortunately, we've banned new pipelines and there's a ban on fracking.
  7. you'd be a lot happier and healthier on clean energy.
  8. sure, because it's not just CO2, it's also methane.
  9. and for most of Earth's history, the climate was inhospitable for humans
  10. renewable fuels are not just cleaner they're also cheaper
  11. Yes it is when over 90% of scientists agree
  12. Looks like both weekend days will have record highs and a chance at 70 on Sunday with the sun coming out? Lows will be in the mid 50s lol, bug city. Remember the severe wx warning we had back in Jan 96 about two weeks after the blizzard? I think that was the last time we had dew points in the 60s in January?
  13. Just in time for the 70 and sunny skies on Sunday ;-)
  14. it covers up all the dirty concrete crap on the ground!
  15. I didn't see a flake of snow, much disappointed. The post mortem stated that the air was too dry to get the kind of widespread snow we got back in December (unless you were well south, like Philly or Baltimore?)
  16. This is very poignant (and for more than just climate change reasons.) https://www.cbsnews.com/news/joel-sartore-on-saving-endangered-species-and-ourselves/ The video has images of species nearing extinction.
  17. Paul, is there a way to come up with a list of analogs of other Januarys that went into a similar pattern?
  18. No, I dont think anyone does. But they just disagree on the timing. A lot of us think that February will be much better for winter weather than January is and will be.
  19. I think he means that if the pattern was really that good that storms wouldn't be cutting or hugging. Cutting/hugging is the effect, not the cause.
  20. The first half of December was pretty meh too....now once you get to the end of the month and especially February, you're talking, but that was what many of the LR forecasters said anyway, that this would be a backloaded winter.
  21. yes and useless cold in between when its dry and sunny lol
  22. Yes but that was a pattern that was bad for the coast. It was good for areas to the far northwest of us. You need better blocking around here.
  23. let's see if we get a trough on the east coast right after that, that would be good for winter weather around here.
  24. Hey if it's going to be warm, much better if it's warm and dry and 70 as opposed to rain and 55!
