  1. I feel really bad for Philly..... Anyway I saw a map of all the storm tracks of the season and they were all north of us, with one right over us. That kind of pattern is bad for snowfall, regardless of how 'cold' it gets in between storms.
  2. If we end up with less than 20" of seasonal snowfall it will be looked at as a bad winter regardless of how cold it gets- thats why we have bad memories of the 80s.
  3. more stats..... the 2010s were the hottest decade on record and had 6 of the top 10 hottest years on record. Also the one year that was hotter than 2019 was the super el nino year of 2016.
  4. funny thing was that was during a solar maximum and right now we are (supposedly) in a solar minimum
  5. Didn't we just get one of those in the Philippines?
  6. it was 70 and 74 in Boston over the weekend, I wonder if back to back days of 70+ in Boston in January has ever happened before?
  7. I'm wondering if their new climate can no longer support their old growth..... ditto with Siberia and California, where other multimillion acre fires have been occurring. We might be seeing a long term evolution towards a more desert or, at the very least, a grassland/savanna kind of climate.
  8. Mar a Lago will likely be flooded before 2050, parts of the Keys have already been underwater for a few months now. About Hong Kong, thats probably what China wants. Did you read about how they didn't care when they had manmade earthquakes as a result of building giant dams?
  9. well the coral reef predictions are sure coming to pass.
  10. Having fewer children is the best way individual people can help.
  11. Yes indeed, about two dozen arsonists were arrested, however the vast and unprecedented scope of the fires was because of the antecedent conditions (hottest and driest on record by a fair margin.)
  12. Trust me, I have been throwing China and India under the bus too. Do you know the air in Delhi India is so polluted they cant even breathe there? The meat industry also has to change- they are right behind China and the US when it comes to greenhouse gas emissions.
  13. I believe they have some professional psychologists working for them who know exactly how to confuse people. The mind games are strong, the science of spreading propaganda has been perfected over the decades..... the Nazis did this too.
  14. Chris, do you think we have a chance at severe weather? Perhaps even a tornado? Long Island has a history of morning severe wx events.
  15. haha I clicked on that because I was half-expecting to see a "translator" that converts every day words to scientific terminology in the dead language of Latin!
  16. I remember Cantore mentioning this, but I expected something that sounded more scientific like "bombogenic temperocyclonic storm" or maybe just "bombogenic temperate cyclone" lol
  17. twitter should autoban these people did you see how bots are spreading a false narrative of australian wildfires being mainly "caused" by arsonists?
  18. I dislike the term "bomb cyclone"- it's like they combined two words that dont belong together into one phrase. It sounds very awkward.
  19. ah the one here in December had a very midwestern feel, it snowed at varying rates from 4 PM to 11 PM and there was even blowing snow! we had about an inch here.
  20. the sea level rises that have been occurring in SC, FL and LA are pretty undeniable at this point, we've even seen it here on the south shore of LI.
  21. The issues I and others have about GMOs is that we dont want large companies to be able to copyright nature and then to sue people whose lands they blow onto- but we now have new tech that replaces GMO that is far better and does not need any pesticides. I also like universities and nonprofits developing tech far more than companies like the (former) Monsanto which has a pretty dark history and got sued into oblivion. Well now that's on Bayer's dirty hands lol.
  22. we see that now already with the dairy and meat industries being replaced with plant-based dairy and plant-based meat.... and thats a GREAT thing. The industries no longer have the influence they once did and only older people buy their products anymore because of their health effects and the impact they have on the environment. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Planck#Quantum_mechanics Further work only cemented quantum theory, even against his and Einstein's philosophical revulsions. Planck experienced the truth of his own earlier observation from his struggle with the older views in his younger years: "A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it."[30] https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/06/business/borden-dairy-bankruptcy/index.html it's good to see the dairy industry go bankrupt
  23. dying is a natural thing- he's just quoting Max Planck. Once people with old ideas die off they get replaced with people with new ideas- it's how nature works. When that generation looks back they will laugh at the deniers of this one. They already are.
  24. Oh you mean like the theory of evolution? In science "theory" doesn't mean what you think it means.
  25. Denmark is also pretty progressive, they are going to be 100% fossil fuel free soon, they have one of the largest solar and wind farms in the world. NY is headed in the same direction fortunately, we've banned new pipelines and there's a ban on fracking.
