My front yard says "what storm?" (trees to the north block the snow). Meanwhile my backyard has a drift almost a foot deep up against the fence -

It's just too cold for brine to be effective at these temperatures, no? They heavily treated the main road nearby, and it's all white other what they've managed to scrap or plow. The chemistry says brine can work down to near zero degrees without freezing. In practice it just doesn't often work that way. I think it buys about an hour of time at the very start of events with temps above 25. Then it get too diluted by meltwater and stops working. -

I just got called into work. Apparently we got water running out of the coolant tire back behind that school and I gotta go. . -
Probably the most important distinction is that we are cold relative to the rest of the planet. The last I saw one of those pretty colorized global representation of temperature anomalies there were two places on the planet the entire planet they had negative anomalies. It was western southern Canada north eastern US and then someplace over in near the Urals. That might’ve been December or November or something. But anyway, I’d be curious to find out what the status of that ongoing monitoring is now. One thing that’s interesting is that the Arctic domain is exceptionally above normal right now the middle latitudes around the hemisphere are actually pulling a global means down in the last 30 days so I think the colorized distribution of anomaly is probably has changed some. Either way the bottom line is is that it’s chilly outside.

Looking forward to a couple days in the low to mid 30s this week. Need to soften/melt this ice sheet some.

Yeah looks like CON will finish around -2.2F after factoring in an 18/-10 for today. That equates to a mean of 20.3° which is sorta run of the mill for this stretch below

Even with 3 snowboards out in various places, none seem to be fully exempt from the (sometimes massive) waves of blowing snow that are coming off trees/houses - trying to measure hourly at least to best gauge actual accumulation. -

I am looking at the radar/satellite combo for the Upstate. Am I seeing things? It looks like a convective circulation over central Spartanburg County. Is that the ULL? -
Haha now I’m BIG flakes and it’s coming down at a good clip. My footprints are filling back in already. Approaching 5”. Think I overperformed a big from 4-6am

Approaching 2" in Belmont. It is an absolute whiteout outside right now! It's 21.8° on my station here and still steadily dropping. CLT has been reporting visibility of 0.25" and "Heavy Snow" since 9:00. -
