El Niño summer pattern finally kicking in

Welcome to 2026 TS Edouard! .

Looks much more like it's about to go poof rather than boom.

We have had worse lol.

If this thing can fire some diurnal convection it could go boom. Not a small ask with the dry air nearby however

August finished with a monthly mean temperature of a preliminary 75.8° (0.4° below normal). That was 0.6° above the prior 1981-2010 baseline. It will turn somewhat warmer tomorrow with the temperature topping out in the middle 80s. Showers and thundershowers are possible late tomorrow and Wednesday. Excessive heat with highs in the middle and upper 90s will be just south of the region in such cities as Baltimore and Washington Tuesday through Thursday. The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +4.2°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was +2.6°C for the week centered around August 26. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +3.93°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +2.50°C. The ongoing strong El Niño, which has reached super El Niño threshold, will continue to strengthen through the summer. The SOI was -0.79 yesterday. The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was +0.654 today.

I do not have any prior runs saved for comparison, unfortunately. However, it does look quite wet for Dec. -
lol I wonder how much people are paid to program these models Where's the raindancewx post where Canadian had a cool Aug for the US at 0.0 month lead and it was near the warmest on record!

Thank you! Have you had a chance to compare these to the prior forecast’s maps? My first impression is that Dec is a good bit cooler than I expected as per analogs. Edit: @snowman19must be flipping out seeing how cool Dec is!! -
I really think this might be one of, if not the most humid summer we’ve ever had. These dewpoints are straight out of the gulf coast states.
-
Why what's the temperature there?
-
EWR with its 80 degree reading today ties 2015 as having all days this month with a high / max of 80 or above. While not a strongly above normal month, and a wet one, it is quite a feat.

Do you have the 2m maps? -
February is marginally better than the previous run too.
-
An improvement over the previous run, which was pretty good for a seasonal product. Better in the EPO and NAO domains for Jan. Colder look for the MA.
