We got our inch here…still snowing but arctic sand now.

Squall line is currently stretching from cincy,oh to albany,ny..awaiting it's arrival here in the bronx.

LI crew and @The 4 Seasons remember 1/4/18? That was an absolute monster for my area, LI, and much of NE. Actually looking at the snow map reminds me a lot of 1/29/22. Don’t think I ever realized how much snow that one dropped in northern Maine…

It’s still snowing quite hard, I’m pretty sure I have in the ballpark of 2-3” total but it’s been blowing around so much that it is going to be hard to get good measurements. Temps just prior to the squall arrival were up as high as 31.5ºF and now 45 minutes later it’s 21ºF. Looks like a rough go of it on the roads right now. This is the closest 511 cam to my house, about half a mile away.

0z EPS tries to develop -EPO mid-month, which would quickly cool down the NE, while other models have more -WPO/-AO.. ridge near Russia. Interesting difference

We went to friends in pjs and a pot luck, gifts for kids, and was home before 1 lol

I'll probably have to stay up until 5am to get in on this squall

Most of my memories are from situations like this, usually in a squall line or strong arctic front. Honestly its probably not super rare for our region as a whole in this type of setup. Now getting it as part of a noreaster I can't recall the last time that happened. If I hadn't been outside I would have probably missed it. I'm not sure if there are any official statistics on it or not.

How common is thunder snow in our area? First time in my life I witnessed it happen was tonight.

Wait til that second batch gets to you. Heavy snow, huge dendrites, its a thing of beauty. Phone camera can't do it justice.

That was awesome to be out in. I measured 3.5 so the squall gave me over an inch. Still ripping.

So, climate… OND this year at DEN had a total of 0.53” of liquid and Dec is the second warmest since 1872. I still wonder about the validity of the #1 in 1933 as it was so much higher than any up to that point. Happy new year!

Looks like one more moderate burst before the dry air starts to shut off the heavier snow. Its ripping here again. Gotta go back outside!
