But a period of snow was always forecast to fall during the commuting period... Whenever that is going to occur, the best option is to delay and then reassess. There were some districts that announced the delay and reassessment routine Tuesday evening.

Then said they would either go with the delay, or cancel by 8:00 am. Once it went bonkers here…and kept going, it was clear that they would need to cancel, and sure enough they did. Strange that ours said "we though the heaviest snow would be after all students were at school" Strange, didn't see any forecast or model with the heaviest here after 9am. There wasn't! The time frame was predicted perfectly. I should know since I'm the guy they conferenced with at 4 am. The arrival time was always prior to commuting period! The intensity level certainly did exceed expectations, but snow during the commuting period was never in question. Any that's why the option for a delay with a reassessment after onset was discussed. They used to only be interested in winter weather... But now ask for consultation during all outdoor events, including concerts, graduations, field days, sporting events etc, any disruptive weather event that could impact travel, lightning threats, etc... 2
