The lowest was our typical cold spot in Warwick Twp with a low of 35.5. With the exception of Sunday, where temperatures will be close to normal with highs in the low 70’s we should see well below normal temperatures continue for at least the next week. Rain chances increase tomorrow morning into the afternoon. We should see a mostly sunny Mom’s Day on Sunday before more rain arrives Sunday night into Monday. I only had maybe 3 or 4 days where I had to take my allergy meds. Now that the trees have all bloomed the window for pollen allergies seems to have closed and I’m very happy about that. Highs will struggle to reach the lower 60's. Nice but brief warm up tomorrow for Mom's Day with highs reaching the mid 70's with sunshine. Much cooler again with below normal temperatures all week. There could be some showers developing late in the afternoon and into the evening. Back to cooler than normal temperatures the rest of the upcoming work week before we warm up by next weekend. Time to discuss these issues rather than baseball and sports issues as they relate to weather patterns Over the weekend down here, one of the popular pick-your-own places in the area- Linvilla Orchards in Media, Delaware County, had announced that they lost 90% of their apple crop and somewhere around 60% - 90% of their peach crop after that last freeze. I know those 2 are probably their biggest fruit products in terms of tree planting, popularity, and sales... although they also have plums, nectarines, cherries, pluots and apricots (that IIRC tend to bloom earlier), plus they have the bush fruits like blueberries and raspberries and viners like strawberries. Still , that was a huge loss for them and illustrates how farmers have to deal with fickle weather. I finished up April with 2.68" of rain and over the past week since May 6, I've had 0.95", the latest with 3 rounds yesterday of 0.28", 0.21", and 0.01" just before midnight, with another 0.01" today just after midnight. I was able to get under a couple of tiny convective cells yesterday that triggered my lightning detector, but didn't produce any audible thunder. Still, it was my first convection of the year! Below normal temperatures are likely to continue today through Friday before we warm back to above normal by the weekend. The best chances of rain will be Wednesday into Thursday morning. Styers Orchard up near me in Bucks County announced the same thing, lost pretty much their entire apple crop this year and are going to have to import them to sell. Very sad, I enjoy fresh apples in this area over the summer. The last freeze killed my one blueberry bush but the other is looking like its about to fruit and do OK.
