Central PA Winter 25/26 Discussion and Obs

Recommended Posts

Cloudy with temperatures slowly rising to near and then above freezing this evening. There could be a couple light showers this evening that in some of the higher ridge areas could briefly see some light icing if temperatures are still freezing when the showers arrive. The good news is temperatures will continue to rise tonight and well into the 40's tomorrow with a line of showers passing through in the morning. We will become sharply colder again tomorrow with temperatures dropping to freezing by evening. We then stay well below normal for the remainder of the week and into the first week of 2026. Next light snow chance looks possible around New Year's Day.

You must really be feeling this - CTP says gusts in the LSV reach 40-50 mph.

This is stronger than last week’s front - mixing isn’t as strong it seem but the aloft winds are stronger jt appears.  We do wind well in these fronts.

The staying power of this ice is impressive. Between the cold temps and minimal solar the trees still look great and even some other surfaces are hanging on. I’m still at 32 under thick clouds and the pines look amazing.

I made it to 32.7 yesterday and am currently sitting at 32.4. There is still ice on all surfaces here except asphalt. It is amazing.

I swear to god, the area I am currently staying in is a precip hole. I drove to State College yesterday and along my journey, there was ice everywhere I went from Mount Union to Port Matilda to State College.

Here? Nothing. I've always joked that the area from Bedford, McConnellsburg up through Lewistown and Sunbury is the most boring weather area in the state, but holy hell, I was amazed at how little signs of an ice storm there were even yesterday while the temperature never got above 34-35.

Lucky. Only thing here is under bushes (but the city had less recipe that a lot and less sleet).

Tamaqua says, "hold my beer"...lol

While we sometimes get into the show, many times we don't. Summer storms generally miss, big coastal storms are a roll of the dice, etc. Last Friday's wind storm netted me a 16 mph gust when everyone else had 40mph and up.

The inverted "V" shaped valley I sit in tempers most of the more interesting weather others experience.

Wasn't that one the main reasons after access to water that valleys were settled instead of the plateau 10 miles away?
