Central PA Winter 25/26 Discussion and Obs

Recommended Posts

I don’t think so far not to many power outages. Which is good news.
Holding steady at 26 degrees here, but things are pretty iced up
We thank God don't have to worry about the winds that will be here in a couple days

Up to 30 here with a steady light freezing rain, the kind that accumulates the most efficiently. Starting to be noticable in the trees.

I’d look for lingering freezing drizzle a good part of the overnight after the main precip moves out in the next couple hours, something CCX radar might not necessarily see down that way.

That’s the point I’m at as well.  Steady light freezing drizzle, 23 degrees.  I can pretty much walk on top of the sleet on my patio, trees accumulating ice.  Clean up is going to be a mess.

It always feels so good posting in here. It’s where I posted the most back in the day when I was at school. A lot of you here are always thought about when storms are impacting PA.

I want a monster snowstorm so I can hop in here more often with a forecast!!

In weather news, just changed to 70/30 snow/sleet. Decent sized flakes at that. Whitening up pretty good out there.

27/26

I always look forward to your post.

I’d just return back with this haha.

It sure looks chilly the 7 days following the frontal passage Monday, which could bear some similarities to the strong frontal passage last Friday. In this case though, it looks like it will be reinforced holding colder temps for a longer period and perhaps setting up some kind of follow up wave later next week. We shall see.

At any rate, things are pretty well wrapped up here. Still messy but winds have mixed down warmer temps and now i have KRUIN beat with a temp of 36ºF

I might try throwing some salt to at least try to penetrate it and turn it to slush before I try scraping it off.

Still looks like strong winds Monday into later Tuesday.

Here are this morning’s CTP thoughts.

Recent NBM/LREF model guidance paints an impressive signal for
gusty winds on Monday after the cold frontal passage with
EC/GFS model guidance in fair agreement in a 850mb 70kt LLJ
across the Laurel Highlands. Additionally, BUFKIT GFS Time Sections
for KJST show 50 kt isotachs down below 500 ft AGL, and 60 kts
at about 800 ft AGL. With the intense SFC low sliding by to our
north, there`s not a significant 3 hourly pressure rise (i.e.,
GRTN 5 mb/3 hr) accompanying the 30 deg F temp plunge on
Monday.

We topped out winds in the low 50s (KTS) across the highest
ridges just west of Interstate 99 and west of RT 219 in the
Laurel Highlands. That being said, would like to see another
model run or two before hoisting a High Wind Watch as the NAM
and other blended guidance indicates solid Advisory Criteria
winds.

I’m still at 30 degrees and everything is caked in a solid quarter inch of solid ice. Not going anywhere until things soften up a bit this afternoon. Thought I’d have more sleet but it’s a pretty scene out there either way. Ready for more cold as we approach the New Year. Melting down the gauge and will report back with qpf. Toodles.
