OrdIowPitMsp
High of 87 today. There are now 3 large fires burning out of control in northern Minnesota. Super weird seeing photos of large wildfires before leaf out has taken place.

Cooler wx, and rain in the picture starting Thurs.

A-L-E-K
Some of my favorite local spring weather, mostly sunny low 70s with intermittent rolling low fog, some foggy blocks have trees trapping moisture and dripping. It's all very cool. Full sun back at apartment less than quarter mile away 15
cyclone77
Picked up 0.09" from some decaying showers last night/early this morning. Euro shows temps pushing 100 on Thu behind the dryline. If dews crash behind that dryline as depicted upper 90s/near 100 looks likely. Consolation prize for missing the storms I guess lol.

Kinda neat!

Brian D
Fires have expanded rapidly. Camp House is at 10k acres, Jenkins Creek at 15k acres, and Munger Shaw at 1600. Over 100 structures burned (cabins n homes). Tomorrow, the rains enter the picture, so that will be a great help. The Greenwood Lake fire back in Aug 2021 burned 27k with 14 structures burned. On the map, you can see that lake to the NE of these fires was the general area of that one.
TheNiño
Another fairly impressive marine layer next to the lake again today/tonight. I’d guesstimate about 1/4-1/2mi visibility right now. Go just a few miles inland and it’s clear. Am I weeny enough when fog gets me excited? (And don’t give me shit about my lawn I’m a renter lol) Edit: Way below even 1/4mi now just before midnight. This is really isolated to very close to the lake but pretty impressive. Can’t see the flag at all now in my original pic.
TheClimateChanger
Incredible stuff. Record breaking 4th day at or above 90F yesterday at International Falls. That's the most ever recorded in the month of May, with 17 days remaining in the month.

To put that into perspective, Cleveland has only seen one May with 4 90+ days (1962); Detroit, 3 times: 1962 (6), 2018 (4), and 1895 (4); and Bristol/Johnson City, Tennessee, twice (1962 & 1941, 6 each). And for those who would blame the latter on elevation, Tri-Cities Airport in Tennessee is actually closer in elevation to International Falls than the other two cities. International Falls looking to shed its title as "icebox of the nation" in a BIG way!

International Falls has seen twice as many 90+ days in the month of May over the last 4 days than Dayton, Ohio has seen in the last 13 years! Just unreal. @Spartman I-Falls' record starts in 1948 with a spattering of records from earlier. Not really that robust, but it still is impressive that they have had that many 90's. If 1934 were in the record, it may have been similar.

There's nearly 100 years with, more or less, complete data for May in the threaded record. As for that claim, possible, but unlikely. Fort Frances, Ontario is just across the border from International Falls and shows 0 days of 90+ that month. The second closest site (Littlefork Ranger Station) recorded 1 day. 1

Torchageddon
Adding 3C to whatever my high is forecast to be has been working out well, another 28C/82F day with higher humidity. My avg is 16C. Lows are now becoming comfy too I think it was 14C overnight. It was very cloudy tues and weds and the puffys got dense this afternoon for another dark one after this morning's sun. Exceptional deep summer goodness.
cyclone77
High was 95 here, MLI a new record with 93, and DVN hit 94. Picked up a quick 0.05" as dry line cells pushed through. EDIT: Dewpoint at DVN has fallen back to 43 after hitting 70 earlier. Potent dryline.

Jackstraw
Off to the track. We got sprinkles over night. Should be quite warm and windy which could make things interesting. We could get a quick hit tonight with the frontal passage. Par for the course with strong kinematic driven systems around here as they usually split N/S. Hard to get a really nice EML push like that one this far East. The forecast for the next week anyway is looking stellar. Keep those muggles at bay as long as we can
Torchageddon
The squall line was falling apart as it came to SON, almost like its energy was jolted forward to pop a bunch of cells ahead of it which is what I woke up to at 1:30am but it was short thunder and quick shower. Then at 3:30 got the main event the lightning quickly escalated some very bright but the thunder wasn't as impressive as what I had in April to no surprise. The downpour was the heaviest of the year, got 10 mm/.4". The lightning stopped instantly at once. it rained out, then a few laggards. Just a typical t-storm, the winds were a bit higher but nothing to note. I'm sick of these night time storms.
cyclone77
Finally some decent rains may be on the way for next week if trends persist. After a lush first 2/3 of April it has become pretty dry/dusty around here the last few weeks.
Brian D
Summer wx gone for a few days. Power went out last night for a couple hrs as a tree fell over a power line just a couple blocks over from me. It was a windy day yesterday, and stms went through with some stronger gusts, but nothing too high. It must have been damaged then finally just fell, as it was well after the winds had calmed down around 10:30 pm.
michsnowfreak
Though it likely wont last the month, crazy that International Falls has a higher May mean temp than Detroit. DTW is now a low-humidity 82F, so today will be the hottest day of this warm week where everything impressive temp-wise hit to our north and northwest.
