Max wind field to the w of NYC.  That is where the 3K NAM has the core of the wind. 

Added 12z 3K NAM 850MB wind forecast 18z/30, and 03z/1.  I think it still be unstable through midnight. Power outages should increase.

Saw what could have been a very narrow, cone shaped rain shaft?  Any sightings of a tornado what appears to be around Newark, from my vantage point in Garwood (central Union County NJ)?   I took some video, but it is not very discernible.  Looked like it became two vortices?  Again, I could be greatly mistaken.

A big branch fell right in front of my car as I was going to work. Luckily I was able to get out of the way.

Last week a hammer fell from a construction site and damaged my front fender.

I have no luck at all.

Strongest gusts around here in SW Suffolk have been in the mid 40s for the most part, with maybe a few close to 50. We had a brief shower earlier which brought the strongest winds of the day with it, while also dropping temperature around 10 degrees (67 to 58 here)

I just saw the same thing at 7:20 PM we had a storm move in which produced very small hail. I noticed a very noticeable lowering towards the west around the newark bay. 

Thats when i got a better view and saw a cone shaped cloud. I took a photo but is really low quality so my apologies in advance.

Couldn't tell if it was rotating as Im blind as a bat. It's probably nothing but then again, it really did have that look...Don't think we'll ever know

It was either over or across the newark bay and moving fast to the southeast which would be left in the picture. 

These cells were weird...they looked like passing showers on radar, but looked really convective in person with some nice structures

Good Saturday morning.  I'm awaiting some final reports.  Max wind gusts appeared for the most part prior to 8PM tho there was a second surge during the night with MPO, and our home in Wantage (among possibly others) maxing out between midnight and 4A today.  I didn't check ACARS soundings from yesterday, so am unsure why it seemed to me the wind overpreformed a bit during Friday afternoon but have seen this before, where the sounding lapse rate transfer finds more wind that wasn't obviously modeled.  Probably some unknowns (to me)  going on with transfer.  In any case, NAM/GFS/EC modeling I think had a good handle on general areas of concern NYC west.  I was disappointed in the RGEM/GGEM runup to this event.  Next up: see May thread.

Yeah, I have noticed this also. It seems to happen when the top of the mixed layer gets near 700mb. The peak wind gusts often run about 5 to 10 KT higher than strongest surface to 700mb level forecast sounding winds. The afternoon peak gusts around NYC occurred near the time of the convection moving through. The Manhattan Mesonet rooftop sensor gusted to 60 mph at 2:20 then had .01 of rain at 2:35.

More data to show timing, max G, in our forum.  Timing was decent as the modeled outcome, maybe a little robust NYC than I would have expected, which means other forecast gust sources were a little shy for NYC including HRRR, SPC HREF and the previously mentioned RGEM/GGEM, even the EC.

there were two big squalls with blinding rain and hail here in SW Nassau, one around 1 PM and the other right at sunset, my house was shaking, they must've been around 60 MPH, were winds that high recorded at JFK and how much rain/hail was recorded?
