Was curious to see if ORD verified with blizzard conditions so went back and looked at the obs

Other than the SPECI ob at 2102z, visibility was a quarter mile or less from 2:05 PM until the ob at 5:51 PM.  Looking at winds, there are some gusts of 35+ mph and on the obs with lesser gusts, the PK WND values generally exceeded 30 kts/35 mph.  It doesn't blow past the specified criteria for a blizzard, but I'd say it's good enough.

No, the daily records. There were 5 6 still standing from 1880-1881: October 18, November 18, February 1, February 24, March 30, April 1.

EDIT: 13.7" is also the second biggest calendar day total ever, second only to April 6, 1886.

Gotcha'. The page I was viewing on the NWS DTX page had the daily's as "Not Available", so I thought they may have been non-existent; at least since 1880... Just out of curiosity, do you still have your link to those numbers? I want to bookmark it.

I don't really have any way to get a good final measurement because the wind blows too much snow out of the grass part of my yard, so I'm just going with 11.5 inches.  That would mean I got about 2.2 inches through the afternoon, which is reasonable.  A few others in CR reported 12.5, but I'll remain conservative.  I don't want to record 12+ unless I'm confident I actually got that much.

My gauge catch precip total for the storm is 1.40".... extremely impressive.  Because of today's strong wind affecting the catch, it may actually be higher.  When those super-juiced UK runs started popping up they appeared overdone, but they were actually underdone.

Like cyclone, my 4-year big storm drought is over.  Let's hope it doesn't take four years to get another one.

I don't know if Detroit will be able to make it, but for some historical background, there are no storms on record in which Chicago and Detroit both received 18"+

This band rolling through hopefully gets DTW should give them another 2". Last report at 11pm 13.7" gotta believe by now there pretty close to 15". Gotta get involved in that band that's rolling through to get to 18"

Excited to walk around campus tomorrow.

Far from the most exciting storm ever here (don't think vis ever dropped below 1/4 mile, if that), but slow and steady wins the race I suppose. Should end up around 14-15" I'd guess. Biggest snow I've witnessed since tracking storms in earnest.
