How do the Members want this sub-Forum run/moderated?

Ok Kevin, you got your wish.  Since we seem to be at odds with the members in here and how the Staff want this place run. As a guideline, we follow the basic "Forum Rules", but seem to run into opposition when we attempt to.  Here are the basic "Weather Forum" rules for all.

  • No politics/religious discussion
  • No foul language
  • No personal attacks/OT arguing
  • Try to stay on topic
  • Attack the idea, not the poster
  • Spell out your forecast/thinking/opposing viewpoint clearly
  • If you post a map, explain it
  • Keep banter to a minimum during Storm Mode* (see below)

These are the Forum wide rules that apply as well.

  • No porn or links to porn
  • No threats of physical violence through postings or PMs
  • No racist/sexist/ethnic/homophobic slurs
  • No using PM system for personal gain/spam
  • No advertising without prior admin approval
  • Multiple accounts will get you banned
  • Do not post threads asking why another member was warned/banned
  • No political sigs, avatars or member titles
  • No excessive trolling of other member

I've highlighted the ones that I feel are the most egregious offenses in our Forum that I see.  I have found that one innocuous post can derail a thread with 5-10 responses.  The thought that when it comes storm time we need to buckle down does not fly in my book.  We should attempt, at all times, to remain on topic as best we can and not resort to quick replies in Discussion Threads, I have no problem having that done in a Banter Thread.  The reason we break out threads is for ease of finding pertinent discussion about any impending systems or patterns, or whatever weather is out there.  I also feel any general obs, pics should be in the Banter thread or in its own, nit the Discussion thread, since it's not discussion.

Will, Ryan, Brian, and Mike may have similar thoughts, differing thoughts so I would like their input in here as well.

Only when people get offended that their post was moved or deleted.

I also do not see how a thread titled "October Weather Discussion" is so constricting and specialized either.

That bolded part is lol-tastic.

What needs to happen is people not taking it as a personal attack if posts get moved or deleted...that's the only time this comes up. Folks are so sensitive about their posts...very serious stuff.

And the banter and discussion threads were fine. I liked the way that was broken out lately. Why can't we have two threads going, where one can be discussion of anything under the sun it seems, and the other one is for weather-only.

*Oh and the rule about clearly explaining why you think something will or will not happen needs to be thrown out there from time to time when we get those bold calls ;)

you can't just 5 post/suspend the problem posters?

hmmmm....who are the problem posters? lol

the one thing that would solve a lot of problems would be eliminating the passive aggressive / veiled trolling that probably 50% of the posters do. for the last year or so that style of posting has taken over in here.

The problem is that the forum is not moderated the same 365 days a year.   Every few months or so, the mods try to "clean things up" which lasts about 2 or 3 weeks and then it slides back to the way it was.  Wash/rinse/repeat.   So when the day of reckoning comes, folks get upset that their posts are being deleted (when the same post a month ago was not) or that they are being moderated.   It's also not right that folks like LL get banned, when there are others here who do a similar trolling routine who get away with it scott free.  Not saying that LL didnt deserve to be banned, but the same rules must apply to all members.   Just my 2 cents

i actually don't know what happened this time. i just think it's crazy for people with moderation powers to make threads like this

That is not how the warning system goes.  We chose to use the 1-2-3 strikes warning system.

Yup.  One of my highlighted issues and probably #1 on my list followed by not being able to stay on topic.  The discussion threads should really be geared towards more meteorological discussion, not just random weather posts.  You know, with a little science involved, since this is a science forum.

This is true and this is where we lean on the members to step up and just follow the basic forum rules.  Not that difficult.  We as moderators are not here all the time and can't do this 24/7 365 days a year.  We have lives, jobs, families, etc.

Not much really, just a few people got worked up over some moderation with posts being moved or deleted.  Why is it crazy to ask the members their thoughts of some things to get an overall pulse?

I'm not sure how/ why my name keeps coming up. This is a thread for people's opinions on any changes they'd like to see. Let's try to keep it about that and not just bringing up a name or poster that people might be disgruntled/ jealous over

If they feel you're a problem, why can't they express an opinion about it?

It is what it is, people from other areas of the country posting their opinions in a thread titled members, meaning SNE, means their sub forums suck, perhaps their attention should be there. All in all there was zero weather going on, nobody missed any vital updates. Talk to me when that nonsense happens during critical weather times.

This is not a SNE Forum, this is the New England Forum and LOL at referring to Forky as "other areas of the country".  He lives like 30 miles outside of New England.  Is his opinion not valid to you?

semantics and no his opinion is not valid on this issue. I appreciate his weather posts but he has been after Kevin for years. Perhaps you could address the hypocrisy issue.

LOL

When I travel to SNE I used to come here for weather info if there was the potential for snow.  Since last year I have avoided the SNE forum because quite frankly it becomes cluttered with nonsense and BS wishcasting.

yeah ok, you missed perhaps the best most classic thread of all time during Blizz 13, you also missed a classic thread on the May Miller B. Not to mention the coming winter threads, the excellent discussion of previous years, your loss.
