Lets get this yet another occluding/weakening POS storm system out of here and just move on to spring and severe weather.  The QC and most of northern IL just can't win this winter, much like last winter.  I guess this means we've paid our dues for the GHD storm.  Two ****ty winters in a row should be more than enough to pay for one 18hr storm 2 years ago.  No way in hell we get another winter this bad for next season, so at least we can expect an improvement next winter.

Well, I did say last year "No way next winter can be this bad". I was wrong....

Poor guy. You're definitely in meltdown mode. I can understand why. There is still a month of potential for you. I know the chances are slim, but they are there.

If I had to make a list of miserable 2012-13 moments, this would probably top the list.  Heck, this is probably ranks near the top in the entire time that I've lived here.  If "misery" was listed in the weather dictionary, they might have a picture of this.

A lot of precip with temps hanging right around freezing.  Did receive some glaze but the accretion potential was largely kept in check by the marginal temps/heavy rates.  This was likely no more than 1-2 degrees away from being the worst ice storm in LAF in over 20 years.

Very nice.

I had a few of these storms when I was in college at Purdue in the mid 90's.

This place sucks. :)

Remember any months/dates by any chance?

Not really. Of course my memory may not be completely correct...but 33-35 and rain is pretty much the same thing to me. Though, this one was probably the worst since I've lived here.

Best positive surprise though was April 1994. I do remember that.

It's interesting if you compare the temps/dewpoints from the 1991 ice event to what happened today. The temps/dewpoints at LAF back then actually look more marginal than they were today. I know LAF had a good amount of ice in the 91 event but maybe it was more of an elevated impact, plus I don't know if rates ever got that heavy. Goes back to the point that today was super close to something major.

What happened then?

I saw sitting my Spanish class in Heavilon, inside room with an "atrium", and noticed it was snowing. Wasn't expecting anything like that. When I got out of class, it was ripping snow. My walk back to Harrison Hall was glorious. WL COOP had 4-5" for that event.

Got it. April 6, 1994. Based on obs, looks like most of it fell during the daylight hours. That was an interesting month in more ways than one.
