58 this morning, and over an inch of rain has fallen so far. That makes over 8 inches IMBY for January. Not too shabby.  I'm sending it all down the Broad River to Columbia!

 It's sure needed

The sun has been out more than I expected and lunch with the ladies was interrupted by Anderson Co schools releasing students early   81/59 imby  currently

Retro OBS but I'm posting it anyways, as I had no consistant internets up there last week:

Shear weather porn in real life...  The 40+ mph gust cut us into pieces.  It was beyond cold.  When it's minus zero and the wind is gusting, it doesn't even feel cold oddly, it just feels.... painful.  Exposed skin takes a beating for sure.  Got some great runs in up there in the Western Territory for sure.  Wish I had a season pass and could hang out all winter.  Fishel Cold Spell sure was in place, see ya next year Snowshoe!

Is negative zero any colder than positive zero?  :nerdsmiley:

So, January 2013 will not be remembered for any great wintry events IMBY.  The biggest story was the great start on rainfall for the new calendar year, with almost 7 inches of rainfall (almost double the mean precipitation amount for January).  This will make a huge dent into any lingering drought conditions and really starts the year off with a bang.

While the monthly mean temperature was 1.6 F greater than normal, it was by no means a torch.  In fact, I observed the coldest high temperature IMBY that I have recorded since I began keeping records in 2006:  25.7 F.  That day was also marked by a sleet/ice storm that was interesting to observe, while not being devastating.  Anyway, it was a better January than last year, but not really a banner month by any wintery precipitation measure.

Now, to the numbers...

Final January Stats:

Hi Temp: 73.5 F (on 1/29)

Hi Temp Below 40: 3 days (Coldest hi temp of 25.7 on 1/25)

Lo Temp: 17.0 F (on 1/25)

Lo Temp below 32: 17 days

Mean Temp: 42.1 F (compare to 41.5 F from 2011; +1.6 F warmer than normal of 39.5 F)

Hi Wind Gust: 22.0 mph (on 1/17)

Total Rainfall: 6.70 in (measured rainfall > 0.01 in on 12 different days, compare to 2.36 in from 2011)

Wettest Day: 2.34 in (on 1/17)

Snowfall: 0.25 in (on 1/17)

Ice Accretion: 0.10 in of glaze plus 0.50 in of sleet (on 1/25)

Rainfall for Year: 6.70 in (A great start!)
