3" in Sterling Heights.. and still snowing at a good clip.. the green returns have been persistant right over my area.. LOL

Ive notice that. One more nice band to come through in the next 1-2 hrs. Hopefully we get another inch. 3-4" in the area is not a bad storm at all. considering

ORD ended up with 0.54" liquid.

0900 PM SNOW OHARE AIRPORT 41.98N 87.90W

STORM TOTAL.

0900 PM SNOW 3 SW MIDWAY AIRPORT 41.75N 87.79W

01/20/2012 M7.3 INCH COOK IL CO-OP OBSERVER

LIQUID EQUIVALENT 0.51 INCHES.

Is there anyway you can explain how Midway ended up with better ratios?

Oh and lol at 20:1 ratios. It seems like ratios greater than 13:1 are always easier said than done. However, that also means that our moisture must have overperformed too, since if 6.4" melted down to 0.40" as per the model consensus, we would be looking at a 16:1 ratio, which, although I don't know for sure, I doubt we have since everyone else's ratio obs are so low.

0.54" L.E. at ORD is from the ASOS gauge, which might have been overdoing liquid amounts for this event, but it's what we have to work with. RFD ASOS also seemed to have a very low ratio based on measured storm total and L.E.

4.0" here in Beach Park. 9pm the snow stopped. Flurries around still. About 20° here now.

Interesting that we didn't have really high ratio's given temperatures. Which makes me think that the snow crystal form/structures were good at packing/settling itself together efficiently.

Hard to imagine 13abc measured correctly... I have 4" in BG, and SEMI has 2.25-3", yet TOL only has 2". Even a spotter report 3 hours before the news had 1.5"... so I'm not sure what to think. Bryan, OH had 4" a few hours ago, and most of Route 224 has 3-5" with another couple inches possible before the snow ends. Good job by CLE on this event, I must say.

Back to heavy snow in Muncie. Sticking a finger through the snow pack is like going through a reverse Oreo cookie. About an inch of fluff on top, then about an inch of firm, but not solid, ice, then about an inch of fluff to the ground.

Same here, snowing good the last half hour. Just drove home from work and it was pretty bad.

Looks like my 3-5" call for Metro Detroit was a busto, however the 5-7" with localized higher amounts for Chi-Town looked pretty spot on.

Some local numbers though...
