  1. Walt, it seems that NYC and Long Island are part of the cone? But this will be a remnant and not a tropical system once it gets up here right? They have 40 mph sustained winds (which would imply a TS) all the way to the east coast, but I suspect it'll already be absorbed by the mid-latitude system once it gets here?
  2. In states like Texas, more people are now employed by the renewable industry than are employed by the fossil fuel cartels. And why not? The green energy jobs pay more, they are the fastest growing segment of the job market and they dont pollute the environment or people's health. What's not to love?
  3. wow 1966 Summer in NYC sounds like it's right out of the 1930s Dust Bowl era
  4. Walt, is it actually the remnants of Zeta that will cause the snow N/W of the city? And any wind potential with that? Also, I have been hearing there is more TC potential after Zeta?
  5. 3-4" of rain on Friday? (any wind potential there?) and then mid 30s for lows over the weekend, followed by a big warm up next week? Are we looking at 70s with sunshine?
  6. yes, it's better than trying to desalinate the oceans, removing salt from water is a hairy process.
  7. how could they possibly be predicting 1.4" of snow on central Long Island? The 2" of snow in the Poconos sounds more believable.
  8. why isn't Cut Bank called the "icebox of the country" instead of International Falls, MN?
  9. Chances of snow flurries making it down to the coast, Chris?
  10. yeah 20 years later us "crazy" people will end up being right. There should be a national transport system for everything.
  11. more like late August or early June I think....at least the birds sound happy
  12. on the same page here, I'd much rather have a knuckleballer with a consistent 20 year career over a flame thrower who blows out his arm for a couple of months every year.
  13. hey it would be cheaper than trying to fight all these multbillion dollar disasters year after year.
  14. I run my space heater at 80 to do the same thing lol. Also it dries out my nasal passages and reduces my allergies.
  15. I remember saying that last January when we were near 70 in the middle of the night and getting thunderstorms! and I drove through a forested area that was experiencing a wildfire back in February (Delaware Water Gap.) Found out later they had another one in May.
  16. Not yet but I am a big fan of weather histories, specifically 1600s-1800s. Where did you obtain it? Yes, I find 30 years to be very arbitrary, I would expand it to 1950 and beyond as that is when most airport stations came "on line." So if you compare the last 60-70 years let's say, you'll be dealing with a similar time frame across most official locations that report weather data..
  17. we need a largescale dehumidifier to get rid of this crap and transport it to where wildfires are occurring. transport that excess rain in the southeast to the wildfire regions! we need a massive transfer of moisture, humanity needs to start geoengineering
  18. could still be like 2005-06 and we get one big storm (although that was a la nina after an el nino which can be very snowy.)
  19. Indeed! One thing that I am starting to see again that is similar to last winter already is that it is warmer farther north.....because of more sunshine? High was 69 at Allentown yesterday with fog while it was 75 at Scranton. I also heard it was in the 70s up in Vermont? I wonder if this is a general pattern that will continue going forward. If you look at temperature departures at least in the northeast, the warm anomalies increase as you go north. It's almost like the furnace that is the Arctic has a fire burning up there that is now spreading southward. It's also logical that the center north of the country and the Mountain west would be the last hold outs to widespread warmth because they are the farthest away from the oceans and the oceans are heat sinks that absorb carbon most quickly (becoming acidic in the process and destroying coral reefs.) Being away from the influence of ocean heat sinks is also why Antarctica is not warming as quickly as the Arctic, although that may be in the process of changing now.
  20. like late summer with longer nights and more water vapor pollution
  21. I know like last year, we sometimes get rain during January thaws, but it's rare to have a night full of fog like this.
  22. Lee Goldberg keeps saying something which I think is incorrect. He keeps saying that the hurricane is "holding back the front to our west." Hurricanes dont do this, if anything, it's fronts that push hurricanes around (we see this all the time.) It's the WAR which is holding up the front, not the hurricane.
  23. I like hot in the summer, not humid. Hard to breathe air that's thick with water. My ideal weather is highs in the mid to upper 70s lows in the mid to upper 50s, with clear blue skies, light winds and low humidity, but in the summer I dont mind temps around 100 as long as the humidity is low. Last year when we hit 95 here with low humidity in early October it was amazing.
  24. My memory must be going but I remember that you brought up 1970-71 as an analog in 2007-08 and it ended up being spot on for how the winter played out. I dont know if it was an outlook per se or if you were just sharing your thoughts about similar winters from the past, but I do remember you said you thought it would be a frontloaded winter like that.
