    This has been a great event but my favorite was the one we had Superbowl Sunday where it snowed all day and ended just in time for an amazing sunset. I like the snow to end just before sunset and then have a spectacular sunset to take pictures of the snow in.

    Right and combining arctic air with warmer than normal waters can often have explosive results. Note how the arctic air didn't make it into Florida, which many of those 80s arctic outbreaks did. This shows the boundary was close to us, which is great for generating storminess here.

    Isn't the IO warming faster than any other ocean, Chris? If that's the case then it may be having downstream effects on the Pacific and so forth. MJO Phase 8 is becoming rare.

    Chris is this also directly connected with how we're seeing bigger snowfalls now with arctic outbreaks and in general vs back then?

    Looks like Bayside has reached 6" too. Many of us may be in the 6-8 range originally predicted by the end of this.

    will we have to start thinking about Atlantic SST cycles too? I remember when warmer Atlantic waters were in our favor because it caused faster bombing systems, has that warming gone too far now?

    snowfall the size of paper plates is awesome to see lol. I hope we get this at least once a week through early April The heat can come after Tax Day lol

    it's been snowing here nicely since 9:30, about an inch or so to freshen things up

    been snowing here nicely since 9:30 AM or so, up to 6.2" about 5 miles SE of JFK. I had to shovel myself out of my driveway yesterday (with bare black top here before that) and my driveway was covered again today but this was about an inch or less today.

    this makes long range forecasting more interesting, as forecasters actually have to think rather than applying cookie cutter enso patterns that no longer apply

    Yeah regardless of what any models show the writing is on the wall, this is our last snowfall for awhile as the pattern is changing.

    Thanks Chris, we had closer to 6 about 5 miles SE of there....and it's been snowing on and off today since 9:30 am, sometimes moderately my driveway is covered in snow again lol. Any updates on snowfall amounts? I saw people were disappointed in this storm, but yesterday I couldn't get out of my driveway without shoveling myself out, and there were a lot of volunteers going around on my street looking to shovel people out. I did it myself but there was definitely much more snow here than there was in the city, and we were down to bare black top before this storm.

    what about JFK Chris? they had the most snow so they should be listed first 5.5-6 here in SW Nassau

    what are the airport totals so far Don? No one ever posts them anymore NYC records are already tainted with regards to wind speed and summer temps, I'm not sure why we continue to use them.

    I'd be happy getting NYC to 40 JFK looks to be all snow by 7 AM tomorrow- when precip is heavier it'll be snow when it's lighter it'll be something else....this is a typical early spring kind of storm
