    1993-94 was in no way shape or form better than 1995-96. To be considered an A+ winter, in addition to having more than twice the average snowfall in a given location, it also has to have at least 1 20"+ snowstorm, so that puts 1995-96 and 2002-03 as the only A+ winters. 1996 and 2003 also both had big snowstorms in April which made those exceptionally long snowfall seasons. (2009-10 and 2010-11 are too for New York City in terms of getting the 20+ inch event but neither had a long snowfall season.) 1993-94 gets an A rating but not A+

    I'm going to be talking about 100 degree heat come summer, you can book it! I hope we repeat the 11 yr cycle this summer and roast!

    Oh okay, I thought that season followed the pattern of snowy December + mild January + snowy February and March. I guess it did but 9.1 is less than 10 inches....that still is a snowy December though and a memorable Xmas Eve!

    hopefully the pink snow is signs of better times ahead for you and your wife my friend. I've only seen pink snow twice (once at sunrise in Jan 2004 and once at sunset in Feb 2009).

    Yes and that was also the last time NYC or western LI had a double digit snowfall in March lol. Also, Jan 1996 is considered the top snowstorm for our area, March 1993 was definitely better in the South though.

    CP we can still have major snowstorms in March of course, but the double digit snowfalls in urbanized areas like NYC and western LI is nonexistent- the last one here was March 1993. It's easy to see why thats the case when you combine high sun angle with concrete. I'm fine with it, as by March most of us are already in spring mode and a 6-8 inch storm is fine and considered exceptional by then.

    Not only that having the snowiest month in March almost always means the winter sucked before that (see the 50s)

    lol look for the last 10" snowfall at NYC/LGA/JFK in March it was almost 30 years ago and I think that was the only one in my lifetime (March 1993).

    NYC and western LI dont get high snowfall totals in March....I've been saying that for years lol. Nothing shocking about it though, thats what urbanization has done. I haven't seen a double digit snowfall in March since March 1993 and it took a once in a century event to make it happen.

    Thats the only state that hasn't had snow this season, even Hawaii has had snow (they get it every year in the mountains.) Florida is the only state not touched by the arctic yet.

    NYC has 38 inches, I think they'll easily get another 2 inches at some point to reach 40.....we've had 4 inch snowstorms in March before with temps above freezing during the day!

    yes 1996 was my all time favorite. I like breaks in the wintry pattern and nature cleaning up the snow before a fresh batch falls.

    This has been a great event but my favorite was the one we had Superbowl Sunday where it snowed all day and ended just in time for an amazing sunset. I like the snow to end just before sunset and then have a spectacular sunset to take pictures of the snow in.
