  1. Past hour
  2. ya that's nuts We ice storm this Thursday night?
  3. Nobody is going to July you silly poster…again, you’re not understanding the full situation.
  4. Also it’s a catch 22 for the supers…if you cancel or let out early and it doesn’t do much…people are bitching. If you make the call to go in and have school and it goes nuts…then people want to Sue you and say you’re negligent. Can’t win. So cancel or whatever, and err on the side of caution, and win the battle. And save your job.
  5. Snowing hard with big fat ones. 26.1. Sun angle hurting road accumulation
  6. Heavy stuff moving in soon with temp down to 30.5 elementary gets out in 15 min
  7. Congrats on going to school until July for wet roads I guess.
  8. Topped out at 1.1” in Clarksburg for the storm.
  9. Next two weeks are looking more wet than anything else. Drought is going to be busted by mid month. You can tell the pacific and gulf moisture feed aimed at our area on the ensembles. I’d expect 2-3 1”+ qpf events in the next 2 weeks.
  10. It was 31 when I came in to work this morning. All roads along my drive were just wet. There was enough brine, salt, cinders and grandma agnes's hair oil on the roads to melt an iceberg.
  11. Enough with the cancellation BS. John(FXWX) explained things perfectly a while back. All It takes is one little mishap, and a kid gets hurt, and say good bye to your job as as superintendent. And a massive law suit for the town/city. If I was in that job I’d cancel too…not going down from sue happy folks. Lots of districts, including mine, had a half day already planned, and the onset of frozen precip here inland was going to coincide with dismissal and travel during that window. If we had a full day here…I think we wouldn’t have had a cancellation. But we were slated to get out early and that’s what prompted the cancellation. If folks weren’t so lawsuit happy, maybe it would be different..but it isn’t. So that’s why it is the way it is. Our superintendent made a bad call his first year in, and he had us going in in the morning during a freezing drizzle event in early January, that came out of nowhere, and it was a total disaster of a morning. The parents and teachers wanted to hang the guy. He said never again…and I don’t blame the poor guy. It ain’t worth the hassle, and potential loss of your job.
  12. I saw the same thing that you did, and decided to head to the office a little later this morning than normal. There was also an accident on 30 just west of the 441 exit in West Hempfield. All of it was cleared when I came in this morning.
  13. Regarding schools closing I can tell you that some of it is simply that some systems don't have the maintenance staff that they did a decade or two ago. I've seen it myself in a couple systems where I do electrical maintenance. They can't keep up with stairs and sidewalks let alone parking lots. And then of course there's always our litigious society
  14. Once you get to 3/15 and beyond, it’s very late/rare for snowstorms south of New England. Can it happen? Yes. Has it happened? Yes. Can you totally rule it out? Obviously not. Would I bet on it? No. It takes an extremely anomalous, freak event at that point
  15. Absolutely beautiful outside right now. Feels like t-shirt weather after the past 48 hours. -8F this AM and now 32F. We’ve recovered 40 degrees before noon.
  16. Someone inform him we update the normals every 10 years
  17. just pulls nonsense out of his ass constantly
  18. What a wild difference between the op and AI. 85 or 33 and ra/zr for methuen
  19. oh they had plenty of time for that too....they are also on track to be done with school by May 15th, earlier if they want to by doing some extra work each day. They also get mandatory hiking days in the spring when the weather is nice
  20. Once you see the models with a 979 bomb off of Hatteras with a well below normal airmass mid March, you'll be right back.
