Your chart isn't raw station data. It's a station network average.If the station network is changing the station average will not match raw data from a single station. Per table below, there are 3 major periods: 1893-1948 = all stations in towns and built-up areas, 1948 - 1970 = transition out of towns, 1971 - present = in suburban or rural. Your chart has spurious cooling in the transition period due to station moves and station start-ups in more rural areas. I have plotted raw data from West Chester before the move and Coatesville after the move because there is an overlap period between 1948 and 1969, which allows the stations to have a consistent baseline. This provides a dataset without major station changes from 1893 to present. Phoenixville also provides long-term data at a single location. That's the main difference between my chart and yours. I have taken out the station moves and you have left them in. The big differences between us is in the transition period.

easier to enjoy outdoorsy wx in May/June as hornet/wasp populations are down. A wet later summer into early fall does help make them slightly less aggressive, I know you hate that.

Came in here round 6pm. I opened all the windows to cool the house an hour ago and my eyes are burning a bit now. edit: there are surely multiple allergens causing that but the smoke was visible up high.

Same here. They had been few and far between through may. A bigger more aggressive population all of a sudden. I would gladly take a week of hot and dry right now to knock the insects down a bit.

Lighter colored hats are better then the darker colored ones.

That's a whole different level of aggression. Yellow Jackets and White Faced Hornets are not to be f'd with, at least as far as their nesting area goes.

We have a lot of mosquitoes out of nowhere this evening. Lot of atonal ear chorus if you venture out … Our town has a policy now where they won’t spray unless you request - some environmental initiative? Used to be they automatically rolled the fogger trucks. I’ve always been on the fence about it. I mean I’m about as environmentally high handed as they come but only eclipsed by my hatred for those motherfuckin mosquitoes! It’s always a tug o war but then my reticence to pull the trigger and make the call was ended when I’d hear the hiss as it went - some kind of weird rationalization that at least I didn’t make the decision lol So … the old guy at the end of the street succumbed to his cancer (sadly) earlier this spring … I suspect with him went the phone call requesting for our neighborhood. He was a smoker up to the end. I don’t think it was the pesticide heh

Black to flies like to swarm around your head and periodically bite, but they're slow. Deer flies ping your head non stop then occasionally get your neck. I found wearing a hat helps quite a bit for them. I'll literally be on the ATV looking back and they'll be right on my tail.

I have a trip planned to Tornado Alley the 1st week of August! Staying 3 nights in Norman, OK, Osage Beach, MO, and Galena, IL. Touring the National Weather Center in Norman. I know it's not the peak tornado season down there, but what do you folks think the odds are of me encountering some severe weather down there that time of year?

Was tornado warned here but weak rotation passed northwest of here on a weakening trend. Did get a nice period of 50mph winds and near zero visibility in absolute car wash style deluge. Up to 0.85" for the day but guessing a good amount of rain blew across the rain funnel during the storm. EDIT: Also, lol at SPC bumping us out of the slight after days of being in it, only to add it back late in the day.

Fruit flies have been bad here all winter too, Usually they're a summer problem.

One of my favorite things anyone ever invented is that fly swatter that looks like a tennis racket. Bzzzzzzxttttt!!! electric death.
